On International Day for the , we are reminded that slavery is not some historical relic. It's a fact of life around the world today: more than 40 million people worldwide are victims of modern slavery, and 150 million children are subject to child labour.

Humanist thinkers and activists around the world played a major role in the development of the abolitionist movement.

Slavery remains premised on the dehumanisation of other people. It is a practice to be despised and reviled with every fibre of our beings.
