You don’t feel out of control because life is busy.
You feel out of control because your body decides when you have to stop.

Most mums I see are holding everything together.
Getting the kids sorted. Showing up to work. Keeping things moving.

But underneath that…
their body is quietly falling behind.

The stiffness in the morning.
The tight shoulders by the afternoon.
The shorter patience by the evening.

It builds slowly, until your body starts making decisions for you.

When you sit.
How long you last on the floor.
When you lose patience.
When you check out.

And it’s not because you’re not coping.
It’s because your body has been compensating for so long…
it’s now overloaded.

When you actually understand how your whole body is working
not just where it hurts

You stop reacting…and start moving through your day with control again.
That’s the difference.
Not doing more.
Just finally having a body that keeps up.

Having been learning about Quadrant Analysis for 3 years now, it still amazes me watching Dr Rob Pape DC do his thing!

Quadrant Analysis has helped me discover new ways of treating people. It's not repetitive, and I very rarely do the same thing from person to person.

Thank you Dr Rob Pape DC for an amazing seminar.

If you have been suffering with pain in that area that you feel like no one has been able to solve maybe the Quadrant Analysis technique is for you.

Dr Rob Pape has been bringing Chiropractors together like myself to teach us a way of thinking about the patient that goes beyond just feeling the area that hurts.

I have been working with him for the last 3 years and I continue to be blown away by how much I continue to learn from him. I can't wait to get back into the office on Monday.

Did you know these things about Chiropractic?

As Chiropractors, we are held to a high standard of care by the General Chiropractic Council (GCC). The GCC updated The Code which is the set of standards that we abide by.

The Chiropractors Act 1994 means that you can't call yourself a Chiropractor unless you are registered with the GCC.

At University we have to have knowledge of neurology, orthopedics, and general medicine. This is not because we are trying to be medical doctors but to know whether we need to refer a patient to another specialist.

The ASA agrees that we can claim to treat other areas than just the spine and they are listed on their website. Any further claims have to be backed by research.

Every year, Chiropractors have to complete 30 hours of continuous professional development. We have to complete at least 15 hours of that with others.

I hope this has helped further your understanding of Chiropractic.

Having someone on the ground overseeing the bigger picture makes all the difference.

When I'm not in the office treating patients as a Chiropractor, this is one of the ways I like to spend my time. I haven't climbed anything close to a 6B+ in nearly a year. I failed about 4 times before this attempt and this was my last try. My belayer was talking me through it all the way which was a massive help and it got me thinking about my role as a Chiropractor.

I am not there to climb with the wall with you but to help be your eyes and ears on the ground guiding you to where you want to be. I will be prepared to catch you if needed but mostly to give help where needed on your way up towards your goals.

We can all get a crick in the neck from time to time. Here is what I would do if he walked into my office on that day:

1) The biggest thing is to rule out any red flags. Patient safety is huge and all of the flags I listed are signs and symptoms of someone that has vertebral artery insufficiency.

2) The rest of the history to find out what happened because I can't actually see what has happened so the patient's story is massively important.

3) The physical exam helps to confirm or deny the suspicions that I have when it comes to the diagnosis.

4) Gain informed consent from the patient by telling them about what they have, how I can help, what would happen if we left it alone and the risks/benefits with treatment.

5) If the patient is happy we will then move on to treating the area and the associated areas around it.

Patients are all unique, so in some cases we may only need a couple of sessions, or for someone with more chronic pain, we may need a longer-term plan.

If you suffer from back pain and are between 25 and 35, here are the top 3 books I recommend as a Chiropractor (the last one I recommend the most):

1) Ultra Processed People by Chris van Tulleken. The book delves into how the food industry has changed over the last 50 years and why we seem to have a food crisis everywhere we look!

2) 12 rules for life by Jordan Peterson. To me, a classic self-help book. It has helped a lot of people through a lot of tough times. If I think someone needs professional help, I will signpost them to where they can seek help.

3) The Back Mechanic by Stuart McGill. Dr McGill takes you through; the myths about back pain, how to assess yourself when it comes to your back pain, and finally the steps to increase the number of activities you can do without back pain.

Each of these books addresses a different bucket that we look at as Chiropractors. The Physical, The Mental, and The Chemical. I hope you can enjoy these books as much as I have.
