🖤 In Loving Memory of Allan Baker (22nd June 1944 – 1st January 2026) 🖤
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Allan (Bilko) Baker, a much-loved footballer, teammate and local legend. Allan passed away peacefully on New Year’s Day (1st January 2026) at the age of 81.
Allan was born in Tipton, and became one of the most gifted young talents to come from the West Midlands. He joined Aston Villa as a schoolboy in 1958 and went on to make 109 appearances for the club (92 in the league) between 1961 and 1966, scoring 17 goals — thrilling supporters with his clever play and creative spark.
After his time at Villa Park, Allan continued his footballing journey with Walsall FC, where he was a firm favourite at Fellows Park. His passion, determination and skill won him admiration from teammates and fans alike.
Alan also represented England Schoolboys, proudly wearing his country’s colours in 1959.
Though his professional playing career was cut short by injury in 1970, his impact on the game, and especially on the clubs and communities he served, was lasting. He later shared his experience as a youth coach and remained a cherished figure in local football circles.
💛 A true gentleman of the game, Allan will be remembered not just for the football he played, but for the warmth and kindness he showed to everyone around him.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Allan’s family, friends and everyone who knew and loved him at this difficult time.
⚽️ Rest in peace, Allan Baker — thank you for the memories.
His funeral service is to take place Friday 30th January 2026 at Streetly Crematorium West Chapel, Little Hardwick Road, Walsall WS9 0SG at 10am, donations if desired to Alzheimer's Research Uk.
