Our colleagues have been busy representing Surrey Choices at two fantastic local events.

✨ Working Together for Woking
Our team had a brilliant time connecting with over 100 groups, charities and organisations supporting residents across Woking.
“It was great to see so many community partners coming together to share best practice and to meet new providers, creating even more opportunities for those we support.”

✨ Walton Leigh School
We were also delighted to attend Walton Leigh School to showcase our wide range of services and talk to families, staff and young people about the support and opportunities available through Surrey Choices. We’re proud to be part of such vibrant, collaborative communities and look forward to building even more connections that help people thrive. 🤝

This week, we’ve been marking Safeguarding Adults Week, an important time for us at Surrey Choices to highlight how we keep people safe, supported, and heard.

Across our services, colleagues and the people we support have been:
🔹 Taking time in teams to talk about what safeguarding means in everyday practice
🔹 Sharing what “feeling safe” means to them 🧡
🔹 Learning together about how we can create safe, empowering environments for everyone 🌿

Safeguarding is something we all play a part in, and this week has been a brilliant reminder of the power of talking, listening, and working together to keep each other safe. 🤝✨

🎉 We’re thrilled to announce that the Surrey Choices Shared Lives Team has been Highly Commended for the 2025 Impact Award from Shared Lives Plus!

With over 60 nominations submitted this year, the Judging Panel were especially impressed with our innovation, collaboration, and the development of new partnerships, as well as the remarkable growth and expansion of our Shared Lives scheme across multiple areas.

🌟 This year, we’ve achieved an incredible 56% growth rate, compared to the national average of just 4%.
Our success is driven by our amazing people, our valued partnerships, and our unwavering belief in the power of belonging. 💜

Paul Dawson, Shared Lives Registered Manager said, "This recognition means so much to us. Every member of the team works with incredible dedication, compassion, and creativity to make a real difference in the lives of the people we support, and we are immensely proud of what we achieve together. The whole team goes above and beyond on a daily basis supporting our Shared Lives Carers and the people using the service. Thank you to Shared Lives Plus Community for this recognition, and to our amazing Shared Lives scheme workers, carers and the people we support."

We can’t wait to celebrate this achievement with our wonderful Shared Lives families at our next monthly social!

Jono shared how joining the Growth Team has helped him build confidence, learn new skills, and make lasting friendships. Through his hard work and determination, Jono has achieved full-time employment at Pirbright Barracks and continues to thrive both personally and professionally. 🌟

Today we are celebrating the first national Mental Health First Aider Day 💚
At Surrey Choices, we take mental health seriously — because caring for others starts with caring for ourselves.
🌼 We’re proud to have 13 trained Mental Health First Aiders, who completed training with Mental Health First Aid England. They’re here to listen, support, and help colleagues find the right resources when they need them most.
🌼 With our staff working across Surrey, we’ve also launched a new Mental Health area on our staff intranet — a space to share personal wellbeing tips that make a difference. From cold water swimming to daily micro yoga sessions and breathing techniques, our team is full of brilliant ideas for staying well.
🌼 A special shout-out to Sue, who joined us last year and has brought her passion for mental health into everything she does. Sue introduced regular wellbeing sessions to help her remote team feel more connected and supported — helping both colleagues and customers to thrive.
Together, we’re building a culture where it’s okay to talk about mental health — and where support is always just a conversation away.
