This week our residents have been enjoying a wonderful variety of ball games across different areas of our home, and the joy on their faces has been so lovely to see 🎈😊
Throughout the week we came together in our lounges and activity spaces to take part in balloon tennis, seated volleyball and gentle seated ball games, creating moments filled with laughter, encouragement and friendly competition 🏐✨

These sessions are not just fun, they are incredibly beneficial. Ball games help to improve balance, strength and coordination, supporting our residents to stay physically active in a safe and low impact way 💪🧠 They also stimulate cognitive function by encouraging memory, attention and reaction time, all while reducing the risk of falls. Most importantly, they bring people together, boosting mental wellbeing through social interaction and helping to prevent feelings of loneliness 🤝 💟

Watching everyone cheer each other on, celebrate every successful hit and share stories of games they played in their childhood was truly heart-warming 🥰👏 For many, these activities sparked happy memories of younger days spent playing outside with friends and family, filling the room with nostalgia and smiles 🌳🌞

Staying active together, supporting one another and filling our home with energy and laughter is what it is all about 🎉 💟 It has been a fantastic week of movement, memories and meaningful connection, and we cannot wait to do it all again soon 😊🎈

February brought plenty of lovely moments across our homes but here’s a little hint at what we’ve been celebrating this month: 🧧🐉 | 🥞 | 🐶🐱 | 💗

From Valentine’s celebrations and pancake making for Shrove Tuesday, to learning about Chinese New Year and enjoying visits from some very special furry friends, it’s been another month full of smiles, creativity and time spent together.

Across our 46 homes, these everyday moments are what make each community so special. They’re made possible by the kindness, energy and dedication of our incredible teams, who work so hard to create meaningful experiences for residents 💜👏

Here’s a small snapshot of life across Gold Care Homes this month 📸

This week Ian enjoyed a fantastic trip into town with one clear mission in mind, to stock up on his favourite drink, Diet Coke 🥤 From the moment we set off he was focused and excited, looking forward to choosing exactly what he wanted

Our first stop was Sainsbury's where he was delighted to see plenty of his preferred drink fully stocked on the shelves. Having so many to choose from made the experience even better and you could see how pleased he was 😆

One of the proudest moments of the day was watching Ian confidently use the self scanner and pay with his card all by himself. He scanned each item carefully, followed the instructions on the screen and completed the payment independently. The sense of achievement on his face said it all.!

It is amazing how money can feel so different nowadays, just a small piece of plastic instead of coins and notes. Does anyone else feel the same? 😅

While we were out in town we also stopped at the post office to send off a parcel, adding another successful task to an already productive day 📮 Ian took charge throughout, making decisions, handling his purchases and embracing his independence with confidence 😁

Seeing him enjoy the outing, accomplish his goals and take such pride in managing everything himself was the highlight for us all. Moments like these remind us that everyday activities can be incredibly meaningful and empowering 💛

Last Friday evening our lovely team and residents came together for a truly heart-warming Games Night and it was such a special time for everyone involved 🎉
The lounge was filled with laughter, conversation and a real sense of togetherness as we created a relaxed space where residents and staff could unwind and enjoy each other’s company outside of the usual daily routine. The evening was all about connection, companionship and making meaningful memories together! 😁

The competitive spirit was alive as residents and team members paired up for lively rounds of Connect 4 and thoughtful games of dominoes 🃏 There were cheers for every winning move and plenty of playful determination around the tables. It was wonderful to see friendships growing, confidence shining and everyone encouraging one another throughout the games

We also enjoyed a delicious selection of picky snacks which everyone could nibble on while playing. There were crunchy carrots and fresh cucumber with creamy hummus, breadsticks, crisps and of course some much loved Celebration chocolates 🍫 The treats added to the cosy, social atmosphere and gave everyone the chance to sit back, chat and share stories

Most importantly, the evening gave us time to slow down and truly connect. We learned new things about our residents, shared lots of smiles and created moments that will stay with us. Nights like these remind us how important it is to bring joy, laughter and togetherness into everything we do 💟

Perfect Pancake Day! 🥞
This Tuesday we celebrated pancake day the right way, our lovely residents got their chef hats and aprons on and came together to make the yummiest pancakes we have ever tried! 😋

We printed out a recipe to make this a fun but also practical day. Our residents took in turns making, flipping and eating the pancakes- the room was filled with such a sweet aroma! We then all put our favourite toppings on our pancakes because what would pancake day be without the toppings! We had a range including lemon and sugar, chocolate and maple syrup, all a hit with the residents. We sat down and indulged into our wonderful creation as a team, and it was so lovely 😆

The room was filled with laughter quickly, it was lovely to see so much teamwork and creativity, with residents sharing stories and tips from years gone by 💟
Activities like this not only bring joy but also spark cherished memories and encourage social connection. Of course, the best part- sitting down together to enjoy the delicious pancakes at the end! 🥞

Let's take a trip down Love Lane with our Valentines Crafts..

Our lovely residents and staff had an amazing time celebrating Valentine’s Day with fun innovative activities! We created our very own individual photo frames, perfectly designed for our family, friends, and loved ones. 🥰 These were seriously so amazing and creative - Da Vinci would be proud 😄
This day is all about expressing love and affection to those who mean the most to us, whether they are family members, dear friends, or romantic partners. 💖

Valentine’s Day is often filled with sweet gifts like chocolates, beautiful flowers, heartfelt cards, and special moments spent together. It’s a wonderful opportunity to show appreciation and spread joy! 💐💌

Our residents found such joy participating in this activity and enjoyed reminiscing on past valentines. We do this to remind our residents about how loved and appreciated they are on this special day. Coming together as a group also welcomes social interaction within the home whether its from residents, staff or family members 💟

How did you spend your Valentine’s Day this year? Share your plans with us! We’d love to hear how you’re celebrating love! 💕

We put on our friendly competition faces and headed out on an adventure
What a great trip we had to Hollywood Bowl Oxford ! 🎉 Our residents had a fantastic time filled with laughter, competition and fun all around- the ten pin bowling was the highlight of our day 🎳

Our lovely residents and activity coordinators were pleasantly surprised by the fantastic variety of arcade games available to play. There was something for al to enjoy which was amazing as no one was left out and every second was action packed and entertaining, everyone had a blast. We took a short break and enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Hollywood Bowl Diner – which was home to some of the yummiest food we have ever tasted especially the burgers- before heading to the bowling lanes 🍔 Let the competition begin! 🥇

It was a special day for Ian, who had been looking forward to this outing for so long, and he was absolutely not disappointed. He enjoyed both the bowling and arcade games and it was so wonderful to see the excitement on his face- this will be a memory he will cherish forever. The laughter and friendly rivalry made it even more memorable! This trip was not only a fun outing for the residents but they also got to enjoy the community engagement while stepping outside their comfort zone 💟

Before we knew it, time had flown by, and we were already planning our next visit to The Hollywood Bowl. It was truly an enjoyable, fun experience that we can't wait to relive again!

At St Katharine's house, residents took part in some fun and energising exercising activities! The purpose of this activity was to help the wellbeing of our residents in a comfy and joyful way 😊 🏃

Exercise with a back🔵 can be a safe, enjoyable, and effective way for elderly adults to stay active and maintain their independence. We also enjoy using our Pom poms lots of coordination, flexibility, and muscle strength

Ball exercises also encourage better posture and core engagement, which can reduce the risk of falls. There are not only physical benefits, exercising with a ball/prop can be fun and motivating, promoting confidence, social interaction and overall well-being 😄
