We’re excited to invite you to our Parkinson’s Connections Café at St Katharine’s House ☕

We will be hosting these meetups on the first Friday of every month, starting from Friday 6th March. To kick off our Connections Café on the 6th, we’re delighted to welcome special guest Sam Brookes, a qualified Nutritional Therapist, who will be sharing helpful advice on nutrition, diet and exercise.

The talk will be of benefit to individuals with or without Parkinson’s, so you don’t need to be living with Parkinson’s to attend. Everyone is welcome! 💜

At St Katharine's house, residents took part in some fun and energising exercising activities! The purpose of this activity was to help the wellbeing of our residents in a comfy and joyful way 😊 🏃

Exercise with a back🔵 can be a safe, enjoyable, and effective way for elderly adults to stay active and maintain their independence. We also enjoy using our Pom poms lots of coordination, flexibility, and muscle strength

Ball exercises also encourage better posture and core engagement, which can reduce the risk of falls. There are not only physical benefits, exercising with a ball/prop can be fun and motivating, promoting confidence, social interaction and overall well-being 😄

We had a fun and exciting pub night filled with laughter, good food and even better company! 🍻 😆

What was it like to spend the day on the slopes surrounded by mountains covered in snow ?
We recreated the atmosphere with our Pub Night ‘. The warm and comforting meal, known as "Apres Ski," provided a cozy atmosphere for catching up with friends and the opportunity to dress up ⛷️

The residents had a fun and memorable evening surrounded by good vibes and a toasty night with the wonderfully set up Hot chocolate station and yummy food all around! ☕ 😃

We had an amazing time and was so nice to see smiles all round from the residents 😄

Sometimes it’s the simple, everyday routines that bring us joy! 💖 Our residents at St Katharines Care Home love coming together to help with household activities like washing up. It sparks conversations about their likes and dislikes, giving everyone a sense of focus and empowerment.

As part of our dementia care, we incorporate meaningful activities with tailored, purposeful daily tasks to engage our residents and help maintain autonomy. Our wonderful residents are actively involved with our team, Wendy and Tina, taking part in activities like gardening, folding laundry and washing up pots! 🌼✨

We celebrated Burns Night by learning more about the history and traditions of Scotland 🇸🇨, including the famous poet Robert Burns and the traditional meal of haggis, tatties, and neeps with a vegetarian option for those keen to try something new.

In the afternoon, we tested our knowledge with a Scottish quiz, bingo, and a word search. Did you know that Alexander Graham Bell and Alexander Fleming were both Scottish?

It was a wonderful celebration that allowed us to learn, share, and appreciate Scottish culture a great addition to our Try January initiative of trying new things.

We enjoyed a lovely evening full of cheese and wine 🍷🧀

The variety of cheeses, along with red and white wine options, made for a delightful tasting experience. Even if you weren’t a cheese fan, there was plenty of choice.

To add to the ambience, Charmaine played some of our favourite songs on the piano while we watched a beautiful photo montage of the English Riviera. The evening was the perfect balance of peace and relaxation, with plenty of opportunities for engagement and conversation.

National Tea Day celebrates Britain’s love for a good cuppa ☕️

Our residents enjoyed trying a variety of flavours, including lemon, peppermint, caramel, strawberry, and raspberry. It was lovely coming together to taste something new, although in the end, everyone agreed that you can’t beat a classic cup of tea. 💜

Kiss a Ginger Day! 💋🧑‍🦰

This day was introduced recently in 2009 by social media influencers, with the idea of eradicating the stigma and social exclusion around those with ginger hair. Many have suffered bullying or isolation simply because they have this unusual colour. 💛

There are some well-known actors, actresses, singers and celebs with ginger hair… Ed Sheeran 🎶, Lulu 🎤, Mick Hucknall (Simply Red) 🎵, Chris Evans (radio DJ) 🎙️ and many more.

One of our residents has a grandchild with the most beautiful ginger hair! 🧡

Unfortunately, we couldn’t find any staff member with this beautiful pigment, but we did have some residents who were ginger when they were younger and had a few stories to tell, which we really enjoyed hearing about! 💬😊

Everyone had a go with the wigs, hats and a make-do beard 😂🎩🧔, and a few were happy to share their pictures here on Facebook! 📸

Who is your favourite ginger celeb? 🤔🧑‍🦰

🎸 Elvis Birthday Celebrations! 🎤

This week we celebrated Elvis Presley in good old rock n roll style!
He would have been 91 years of age this week 🎂

He brought us so much wonderful music and his legend truly lives on ✨ What a fantastically talented man!

Tina and Wendy invited residents to dress up and join in quizzes, crosswords and colouring while chatting about Elvis, his family, the history of his music and their favourite songs. Of course, at the weekend Charmaine had everyone joining in with some singing 🎵

There were some Suspicious Minds as the singer was female, residents wore their slippers instead of Blue Suede Shoes and were All Shook Up as Ian and Richard took to the stage to help us dream we were in Viva Las Vegas 🎰✨

We couldn’t Help Falling in Love with the wonderful homemade cakes from our kitchen during afternoon tea 🍰☕

Uh huh huh oooh yeah! 💃🕺
