And trust us, we can tell

Why home exercises make a difference:
✨ Build strength between sessions
✨ Improve mobility and confidence

When the homework actually gets done, sessions run smoother, goals are reached sooner and your dog gets better long-term results 🫶🏼

So from your vet physio team, thank you for showing up, staying consistent, and putting in the work at home.

That’s not just good rehab, that’s consistency making a real difference 🩵

Surgery repairs the damage

Rehab bridges the gap between being healed and moving well.

After surgery, your dog isn’t just healing an incision. They’re rebuilding strength, balance, confidence, and normal movement patterns that were lost long before the operation 🌀

If you’re feeling unsure whether or not your dog “needs” physiotherapy, this post is your answer 💡

Subtle signs often appear long before obvious injury ❤️‍🩹

You know your dog better than anyone, so if something feels “off”, trust your instincts.

Dogs are experts at hiding pain but subtle signs can show up in a number of different ways:

🐕 Weight Shifting: Leaning more on one side or constantly changing positions can mean your dog is avoiding discomfort
🐕 Licking joints or paws: Excessive licking can be a self-soothing behaviour linked to joint or muscle pain
🐕 Behaviour changes: Pain often shows up emotionally before physically. Is your dog more withdrawn, grumpy, clingy, or “not quite themselves”?
🐕 Second-guessing movement: Hesitating before jumping, sitting, or standing can signal pain, even without limping
🐕 Increased restlessness: Restlessness, frequent repositioning, or sleeping more than usual can be signs of discomfort
🐕 Appetite or drinking changes: decreased appetite and changes to drinking patterns can also be indicators of pain

Are any of these sounding all too familiar? Get in touch for a physiotherapy assessment today 🐾

Dogs are experts at hiding discomfort 💡

Instinct tells them to keep moving, keep playing, keep up with their humans, even when something hurts.

👉 Chasing the ball ≠ pain free
👉 Excitement + adrenaline can temporarily mask pain
👉 Many dogs only show subtle signs after an injury has progressed

Before a diagnosis we often hear things like:
• “He’s just slowing down with age”
• “She only limps after big walks”
• “He’s stiff but once he warms up, he’s fine”

Early intervention isn’t about stopping their fun, it’s about keeping your dog comfortable, mobile, and doing what they love for longer

So if your dog is:
✔ Slower to get up
✔ Stiffer after rest
✔ Less jumpy than before
✔ Changing how they run, sit, or lie down

…it’s definitely worth a closer look.

Pop down the ball flinger and give us a call 📞

“How many sessions will my dog need?” 🌊

Is a question we hear all the time

And while most dogs would benefit from long term hydrotherapy on a maintenance level, 10 sessions is typically our recommendation at a minimum

Not only do we see a huge difference to the dogs we treat on a daily basis, there is also some great clinical evidence to suggest that just 10 sessions can in fact make a staggering difference to your dog’s mobility 🙌

Physiotherapy isn’t just exercise

It’s comfort, support, and quality of life at every age 🫶🏼

We love physiotherapy for older dogs for so many reasons:

• Fewer sore days
Gentle techniques help reduce stiffness and discomfort, making day-to-day life easier and more enjoyable

• More comfortable movement
Supporting joints and muscles allows them to move with less effort, whether that’s getting up from rest or heading out for a short walk

• Better balance
Improving strength and body awareness helps reduce wobbliness and gives them more confidence in their movement

• Peaceful moments like this
Sessions aren’t rushed, we have set up our appointments so that whatever your dog needs, they receive

Aging deserves care, not compromise 🤍
