The Old Rectory Nursing Home is a care home set in three acres of quiet, leafy grounds nestled between st Wilfred’s Church and the Bridgewater Canal within the community village of Grappenhall. The care provision at The Old Rectory endorses a holistic approach which is sensitive to the needs of each resident and encompasses the following essential aspects of the person.

🧠✨ Quiz time fun!

Our residents put their thinking caps on today for a lively quiz afternoon. There were plenty of laughs, a bit of friendly competition, and lots of cheering each other on. 🎉

It was a great way to keep minds active, share memories, and enjoy each other’s company. 💙 Well done to everyone who took part – we’ve got some real quiz champions among us! 🏆

🎶✨ What a treat we had! The wonderful Debbie Mc came to sing for us, filling the room with music, smiles, and lots of toe-tapping. 🎤💃

Our residents joined in with some favourite tunes, and the atmosphere was simply magical – laughter, singing, and even a little dancing! 💙

A huge thank you to Debbie for sharing her talent and bringing so much joy to our home. 🌟

🎨✨ This afternoon our residents enjoyed a relaxing watercolour painting session. Brushes in hand, they let their creativity flow, experimenting with colours and techniques to create some truly beautiful artwork.

It was a calming and joyful activity that encouraged self-expression and plenty of smiles along the way. 💙

We’re so proud of everyone’s masterpieces – a wonderful way to spend the day together! 🌸🖌️

🎉🦅 A special treat for Doug’s birthday today! 🥳

We had a wonderful visit from Vale Royal Falconry Centre, who brought along some of their incredible birds of prey for our residents to meet. Everyone was fascinated learning about the different species and loved the chance to see them up close.

It was a truly memorable afternoon filled with smiles, amazement, and lots of birthday cheer for Doug! 💙

🌞🎉 Throwback to Last Year's Summer Party! 🎉🌞

We’re still smiling when we think about our Summer Party last year — an amazing day filled with laughter, music, games, and so many kind hearts coming together. 💛

Thanks to the generosity of our residents, families, friends, and community, we raised nearly £2,000! Every single penny was put to wonderful use — funding sensory equipment and activities for the Forget Me Not Unit at Warrington Hospital. 🏥💐

These donations have made a real difference, bringing comfort, stimulation, and joy to patients and families who need it most. 🌈💖

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, donated, baked, danced, sang, or simply cheered us on. You helped make something truly special happen. 💕

We are yet to decide where the donations from this year’s Summer Party will be going — but we promise to let you know as soon as we do! 🥳

Here’s to many more celebrations that change lives — together we can make magic happen! ✨

A thoughtful donation is helping patients living with dementia at Warrington Hospital.

We’re incredibly grateful to The Old Rectory Nursing Home in Grappenhall, who have donated nearly £2,000 worth of sensory and activity items to the Forget Me Not Unit – Warrington Hospital’s dedicated dementia ward.

The donation includes jigsaws, colouring books, memory aids, sensory lights and reminiscence games – all designed to enhance wellbeing, stimulate memories and reduce anxiety.

Emily Thompson, Activities Co-ordinator on the unit, said: “Receiving this donation was incredibly heartwarming. These gifts will make a real difference in calming, engaging and uplifting our patients.”

Sue Whittaker, Admin and Events Co-ordinator at The Old Rectory, added: “Supporting people with dementia is something very close to our hearts. We hope this donation inspires others to do the same.”

What a fantastic weekend we had at our Annual Summer Party! 🌺☀️ The garden was full of laughter, music, delicious treats, and smiling faces — from residents to family members and staff, everyone joined in to make it a truly special day. 💃🕺🍓

🧀🍷 Cheese & Wine Delight! 🍷🧀

Last week, we treated our lovely residents to a wonderful Cheese and Wine Tasting Afternoon — and what a hit it was! Smiles, laughter, and great conversation filled the room as everyone sampled a delicious selection of cheeses and sipped on a variety of wines.

From creamy brie to mature cheddar, paired with red, white, and rosé, there was something for every palate. It was more than just a tasting — it was a chance to reminisce, share stories, and enjoy each other’s company in a relaxed and joyful setting!

We had the pleasure of welcoming Joe Cockx back last Friday for another wonderful afternoon of music! 🎵 His warm voice and classic tunes had everyone singing along, clapping, and even dancing in their seats. 💃🕺
