I really feel for the little people with colds and coughs starting at this time of year. As a parent, it’s really tough to witness especially if you feel pretty useless with how you can help. That’s where I come in!! I use a multitude of different gentle, safe, effective techniques to strengthen their immune systems and shake off their colds. No one size fits all, so each child has a bespoke treatment. I can also recommend various Chinese herbal dietary supplements that really are brilliant. They don’t suppress the symptoms, they treat them head on and I’ve found them invaluable. Now is the time to start coming for treatment, before it gets super cold 🥶

Parents bring their babies to me when they’ve got reflux. It’s a really lovely, gentle treatment without needles that primarily strengthens their very immature digestive systems. Sometimes babies can get cold in their tummies which causes pain, so I also use a warming technique. Reminding their bodies how best to work at this young age really does start going them a stronger foundation, serving them as they grow.

When this 10 year old patient said she was happy to write me a testimonial to help other children decide about acupuncture, I was totally blown away! She was brought to clinic for symptoms of severe constipation which have been on going since she was a baby. The dedication of months of weekly treatments (given this has been an issue for 9 years) has made a significant difference. Gua sha is a great technique that I use for a number of reasons, often to clear Heat from within the body that needs to be released. My wonderful mini patient here was happy to continue doing his own thing while I gently stroked his back using the disposable honey pot lid. Small red dots or a red tinge to the skin can show up fairly quickly and may last a couple of days. It may also disappear as fast as it has come up. The redness is nothing to be concerned about and I always give parents a letter to take home which explains what this age old technique of gua sha is. I know through experience that now is the time to start building up your child’s immune systems in preparation for Winter. Especially if they get repeat infections or recurrent symptoms from an illness that worsens in the cold & with which they unfortunately have a history. Happy to talk to you. A less stressful winter where you’re not waiting for THE cough / tiredness / ear ache to rear its head. How wonderful would that be?!

Sleep problems with your baby or toddler is a common reason why patients come to the acupuncture clinic. There can be a number of reasons why your little one is struggling, which in turn also deprives you of sleep too. Believe me, I know what it’s like as have experienced it with both of my children. How great though to have acupuncture as a holistic, drug free, safe option that will help to bring your baby or toddler into more of a balanced state. Needles are absolutely not necessary, I use many techniques that many enjoy receiving! Let me know if you have any questions. I’m here to help 🦋

Review from a parent after I’d been treating their 13 year old who had long Covid & extreme fatigue, which had resulted in her not being able to attend school. With acupuncture, support with some lifestyle changes plus Chinese herbs (from my lovely colleague Tamara Kircher) ~ within a few months she was back at school, horse riding & trampolining again! Getting to a place where she could live life again (rather than purely survive) took teamwork, commitment, understanding, patience and time. These things aren’t a quick fix but they CAN HAPPEN! Constipation & stool withholding can be extremely difficult for your child and also as their parent. Acupuncture really is a great resource you have available & one that many aren’t aware of. I’d look into the root cause of the symptoms & give them individually tailored treatments using different techniques. Most importantly, using methods they’re happy with and building up a rapport with them along the way. Do call me if your baby or child is struggling with their bowels to see if I can help.

It’s very common for babies to be born with some element of heat in their bodies that will ~ at some stage ~ need to come out. Their systems are incredible in that ~ when they are strong enough ~ they release this heat naturally by getting a temperature. This is part of their development. However, sometimes babies / children benefit from having a helping hand in releasing what may be pathogenic heat that is causing imbalance. The Tui Na (pronounced twee-nar) Spinal Roll technique is a brilliant way to release heat as it’s also strengthening the child’s organs simultaneously. The photo above demonstrates what the back can look like afterwards, it doesn’t hurt, it’s red because of the heat coming out. If your baby or child has signs of potential excess heat such as really smelly stools, easily irritable / emotionally reactive, restless sleep, nightmares / sleep talking, hot 🥵 ~ then please do get in touch to chat about how I can help.

I thought this was a really good way to illustrate how fine & tiny the acupuncture needles are for children. The whole needle isn’t inserted, only some of it and with child friendly needling; it’s carried out gently. Parents always seem amazed their little ones hardly notice them & are interested in the packaging! As always, needles aren’t the only option. I practice many other modalities too.
