REGISTER NOW: Bridging Gaps 2024
We are so pleased to be bringing our free, online conference to you. We’re celebrating clinical research this year from all backgrounds, and welcome abstracts for oral and poster presentations. Head to our link tree to register: linktr.ee/beaconacad (also in our bio)

Dr Mary Doherty explored accessibility challenges faced by neurodivergent clinical academics.
Best practice points include:
- academic research into supporting neurodivergent individuals in this field
- ensuring we open up the space to include all neurodivergent diagnoses beyond autism
- using affirmative approaches to help neurodivergent people come to the best outcomes
- making space for spiky profiles within clinical research spaces, to accommodate for post-hyperfocus burnout.

Tom's Top Tips
Effectively managing time:
A lot of people will work more hours on their work when there is no set structure to your day. Try to stick to what works best for you to be both productive and protect your personal time. For example, if you’re doing a literature review and prefer to work later in the day, consider starting some work in the morning to clear your inbox, take the rest of the morning off to eat/ exercise/ live, and then have some protected work hours later in the day.

When you know you have a deadline coming up, mark that date on your calendar with an alert 24 hours before, and work back from there thinking about: when you would like the work done by so you don’t need to rush submission, how long the work would take to do (and how much time you need to have to complete it), how long it will take to prepare for doing the work etc. This way, you can see how tight for time you are, and adjust your calendar accordingly.

Tom's Top Tips this Tuesday
How to manage your time effectively:
Some people benefit from deadlines, even if they are soft deadlines or a deadline that you’re setting yourself. This is a good idea if you have a big submission to put in, such as ethical approval by a deadline or abstract by a deadline.

Tom's Top Tips this Tuesday
Book meeting dates with your supervisors in advance. At the start, decide if you will meet every last-Monday of the month, or you will plan at the end of one meeting when you’re going to meet next. If you do the latter, consider using an agenda to help frame the meetings, and have the next meeting as a point on the agenda each time.
