As you know, this Christmas we are raising money for Cancer Research UK.

On Saturday the 20th and Sunday 21st December we will be open from 2-7pm for anyone who would like to light a candle in memory of a loved one no longer with us or put a star on our Christmas tree of remembrance.

In addition to this, my friend at Baileysbakesandcakes has kindly donated this traditional Christmas fruit cake with fondant icing to raffle.

£1 per entry.

Choose a number from 1 - 50.

Thank you so much to Margaret Rose Events for doing our Christmas decorations.

Kind Reminder

I would just like to remind everyone that at our funeral home we are helping grieving families.

Unfortunately, where we are situated, we hear horns and music being blasted, shouting and speeding vehicles going past.

Could I please ask that you think of how you would feel visiting a loved one or arranging a funeral whilst this is going on.

Our heartfelt thanks to those who show dignity and respect around our funeral home.

We would love to hear what you think!

Recently we had an article published in the Sunderland Echo regarding the lack of a memorial garden in Washington. We would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Would you like somewhere to scatter your loved ones ashes or even somewhere you can go that gives you piece and quiet to reflect on precious memories.

We know that we are surrounded by fabulous memorial gardens in surrounding areas, just not Washington.

Today, we pause to honour and remember the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed for our freedom. On this Remembrance Day, we remember the courage, selflessness, and valor of those who answered the call to duty.
At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we observe a moment of silence to pay our respects to those who gave their lives in service to their country. Their legacy lives on in the peace and liberty we enjoy today.

During my time as a funeral director I have come across many traditions that people have when a funeral cortège passes by or when you are passing one.

I always bow my head.

I would love to hear what you do?

We have covered Traditional & Direct Cremation funerals this week and I would like to now highligh Eco friendly funerals, fondly known as Woodland Burials.

This week we have spoken about traditional funerals and today we would like to highlight direct cremation

At Deborah Mitchell Independent Funeral Services we think that a direct cremation should still have the same dignity and respect as a traditional funeral.

That is why we will provide a small floral tribute, use a traditional oak veneered coffin and transport your loved one in a traditional hearse to a local crematorium.

Every life is different, and so is every funeral. Each and every funeral we offer is bespoke and tailored uniquely to your specific needs. We’ll help you add personal touches to any plans you may have.

Direct cremation
is an affordable, quiet, simple farewell handled with the same care and professionalism as any of our other bespoke funerals.

Our Bespoke Funerals

Every life is different, and so is every funeral. Each and every funeral we offer is bespoke and tailored uniquely to your specific needs. We’ll help you add personal touches to any plans you may have.
Every service we arrange is shaped around the person being remembered.

Today I would like to highlight the meaning of a traditional funeral.

Traditional funerals offer a comforting day when saying goodbye to a loved one. Typically held at local crematoriums, churches or meaningful venues, they often include readings, music, tributes, and a burial or cremation, but it doesn't stop there. Wherever we can include your personal choices, or requests, we will do our best to accommodate you and your family.
