Rowans Hospice

Rowans Hospice Established since 1994, we support more than 1,000 patients and families across Portsmouth and South East Hampshire every year.

Rowans Hospice is a charity offering free specialist Hospice care and bereavement support across South East Hampshire including Waterlooville, Portsmouth, Gosport, Fareham and Hayling Island. We provide our services free from discrimination and free of charge, but it costs £7.2million to continue our vital work, and we rely on charitable giving for 90% of this income.

We would like to say a big thank you to The James Cowper Kreston Foundation for awarding the Hospice a grant of £2,930 to purchase an OSKA mattress for the In-patient Unit.

OSKA mattresses help to reduce pressure build-up, supporting the prevention and healing of painful pressure ulcers, as well as enhancing comfort by minimising repositioning, all which supports Rowans Hospice’s compassionate, high-quality care.

Thank you, The James Cowper Kreston Foundation 💚

There are many ways to support Rowans Hospice via any Trust and Foundations you may have connections with, including general running costs, as well as specific services, projects and equipment, on a one-off or multi-year basis. If you would like to know more, please do get in touch with our Grants & Philanthropy Manager via email: Rebecca.barr@rowanshospice.co.uk.

✨ Gift a Cuddle This Christmas

At Rowans Hospice, we see every day how powerful a simple cuddle can be, the warmth, comfort, and closeness it brings in the most difficult of times.

A cuddle bed allows patients and their loved ones to lie side by side, hold hands, and share precious moments that might otherwise be impossible.

This Christmas, we are asking for your help to make sure every family has the chance for a final cuddle. With only three cuddle beds for sixteen rooms, we dream of a time when no one has to say goodbye from a distance.

Your donation could help us bring families closer, turning a lonely night into a moment of love and comfort.

🌟 Volunteer Appreciation Day 🌟

We would like to take a moment to celebrate our incredible Volunteers and highlight just how much they do to support us. Whether they are working tirelessly at our Events, supporting our Retail Stores, offering their time at the Hospice, or helping within our Living Well Services, we are so grateful for every single person who volunteers with us.

Over the past year, our Volunteers donated 76,393 hours of their time to Rowans Hospice, saving us an incredible £873,939 between April 2024 and April 2025!

To all our amazing Volunteers, thank you. Your time, compassion and dedication mean the world to us. We truly couldn’t do what we do, without you. 💚

Party in the Clouds 🪩✨

On Saturday, we held our brand-new Party in the Clouds event at the Spinnaker Tower, with our Silent Disco from Bass Entertainment, live music by The Ibiza Band , and views across the South Coast.

We hope everyone had a fantastic evening and enjoyed it as much as we did. It was a truly incredible night for the Hospice, with a brilliant turnout and the event completely selling out with over 300 tickets sold!

Our team would also like to say thank you to everyone that helped making the night so special, including Epic Photobooths, our magicians Magic Steve , Ian Mckeown, everyone who donated raffle prizes to use, Wellington Vale Care Home for supporting with decorations and KINTO for supplying a van to use.

We are so pleased with how the event turned out and would like to say a final huge thank you for supporting us at our Party in the Clouds. 💚

So far, our wonderful supporters have raised £4,881 towards our Gift a Cuddle Appeal ❤️

Each of these beds costs £15,000. Our dream is for every bedroom at Rowans Hospice to have one.

This Christmas we are asking our wonderful community to help us raise enough funds to add more cuddle beds to our In-patient Unit, so no family has to say goodbye from a distance.

The annual Lake of Lights in-memory event is only two weeks away, and we hope to see you there.

This special night is a time of year to remember those who are no longer with us, and honour their memory by lighting a candle, embracing a moment of quiet reflection, and spending time with those who mean the most.

If you are planning on lighting a candle in memory, you can now order them in advance. When you arrive at the event, you will simply need to head to the Collection Tent and collect your candles ready to place on the lake.

To find out more about the event, or order your candles, visit our website here - https://buff.ly/iUsb1ly

Take a moment this festive season to remember someone special with Light Up a Life. ⭐

Each year, hospices across the UK come together to honour the memories of loved ones who are no longer with us. At Rowans Hospice, we mark this through our Lake of Lights event, held at Canoe Lake in Southsea on Sunday, 14 December 2025, from 5:00pm.

Whether you join us in person or from afar, you can make a personal dedication for you, on our Light Up a Life Dedication Wall.

If you are able to make a donation alongside your dedication, your support will help us continue providing compassionate care for local families. Every contribution, no matter the size, truly makes a difference.

“We sometimes have to push the fold up beds close to the patient’s bed to enable husbands, wives and family to be close to their loved ones” In-patient unit Nurse.

A cuddle bed will change this, as it is a double-sized specialised bed, which allows families to stay close when it matters most. Support our Gift a Cuddle This Christmas Appeal and help us fund cuddle beds for every bedroom at the Hospice.
