It’s Payroll Giving Month! Did you know you can support the Hospice with a regular donation straight from your salary each month?

Payroll Giving lets you donate directly from your gross pay, which means no income tax is paid on your donation, so you give more, and it costs you less.

Why set up payroll giving?

💷Your donation is taken before tax. For example, a £10 donation will only cost you £8 if you are a standard-rate taxpayer.
📅It’s easy to set up and the donation is automatically taken every time you are paid.
💚Your employer may match your donation. Many workplaces offer to match their employees' donations.

Setting up Payroll Giving is hassle-free. Get in touch with us to find out how 👉 corporate@rowanshospice.co.uk

For many people, Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love. For others, it can be a reminder of someone they miss, a partner or friend who once made the day special. If today feels difficult, please know you are not alone. 💚

You can remember your loved one by leaving a dedication on our Rowans Hospice Memory Wall. It is an online space where you can share memories, photos, or a few words in their memory.

This week marks National Apprenticeship Week, a time to celebrate the diverse paths people take to build rewarding careers.

Apprenticeships are a vital part of our charity, allowing staff across all departments to gain formal qualifications and fresh perspectives while continuing their essential work.

We are incredibly proud of our Apprentices Karla, Kayleigh, Lisa and Ruby, and the dedication they bring to their roles every day. They remind us that no matter what stage of your career you are in, there is always room to grow and learn.

This Thursday we would like to say a huge Thank You to the Salvation Army Band for visiting us across the Christmas period.

The band performed at the Living Well Centre to our service users and then visited our In-patient Unit to play for our patients and family members outside their rooms, the band also took song requests. So many of our staff and family members commented on how lovely and moving it was, with tears in many eyes across the Hospice.

We are so grateful to the Salvation Army Band for providing a wonderful performance for us all. Thank you. 💚

This week marks Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week with Place2Be and the theme this year is: This Is My Place.

For many children, bereavement can be an incredibly isolating experience. Grief in childhood often brings a deep sense of being different, misunderstood, or alone, especially when peers have not experienced loss.

Our Rowans Meerkat Service aims to help children understand they are not alone.

One way we do this is through group support, where children and young people can meet others with similar experiences of loss. These groups offer space to have fun, to connect, and when it feels right, to share their stories and their grief. Being met with care, understanding and validation from other children who truly “get it” can be profoundly powerful.

We are proud to offer a place where children know they belong. A place where they can be themselves, without judgment, without having to explain, and without feeling misunderstood. A place they can return to for as long as they need.

As one teenager shared during a recent group session: “I lost someone, but I found others.”

When children feel understood and accepted, it helps them recognise and hold onto their own worth. From that sense of belonging, confidence can grow, and with it, the belief they can still hope, dream, and live happy, fulfilled lives.

✂ We are looking for Hairdressers to volunteer in our In-patient Unit to help bring comfort, confidence, and a sense of normality to our patients.

We know from experience that complementary therapies can help calm emotions, ease anxiety, and boost overall wellbeing, and something as simple as a haircut or style can make a real difference.

If you would like to use your hairdressing skills to support our patients, or know someone who might, please get in touch with our friendly team: volunteers@rowanshospice.co.uk.
