Medtrum

Medtrum Medtrum is dedicated to Simplify Diabetes by developing and commercializing innovative solutions to improve the lives of people with diabetes.

Medtrum’s mission is to develop and commercialise, innovative, user-friendly and integrated products to improve the lives of people with diabetes who use insulin, with the aim of simplifying diabetes management. We offer the very latest Insulin Pumps and CGM for children and adults

What we have developed is truly unique… More than a patch pump! We have the World’s first commercially available Tubeless Insulin Pump that has the option to seamlessly integrate with Medtrum’s Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) system providing Predictive Low Glucose Suspend (PLGS) function. This automatically stops insulin delivery before going low, helping to reduce the risk of hypos and improve time in range. The only Semi-closed loop in a Patch Pump. Our product offering is modular, offering 3 diabetes management solutions for people living with Type 1 Diabetes:

1. Medtrum Tubeless Insulin Pump – this is our standalone Tube Free Insulin Pump – Being tube free, our small, lightweight, Patch Pump can be discreetly worn on the arm, abdomen, thigh and lower back area. This provides extensive freedom of movement, allowing normal activities without any tangles compared with traditional ‘tethered’ systems. The pump is remotely controlled using the intuitive, colour touchscreen Personal Diabetes Manager (PDM) It is extremely easy to use and small enough to fit in your pocket. Alternatively, by choosing to use the new EasyPatch App, smartphone control for your insulin pump is already a reality, giving you more freedom and flexibility.

2. Medtrum TouchCare Slim CGM, our slimmest, most accurate and affordable standalone Continuous Glucose Monitoring system with up to 14-day wear…. We want more people to benefit from access to CGM. Choose to wear on its own or combine and integrate with our Tubeless Insulin Pump.

3.Medtrum TouchCare System which is the combination of the Patch Pump and CGM with Predictive Low Glucose Suspend function, to help prevent life detracting severe hypo’s…. The system is easy to use, easy to learn, easy to teach and easy to share. We have great innovative products, but also understand the importance of having excellent support for you and your healthcare teams, both on the ground with local support, and from the back office with customer services and 24/7 technical support…. We have many centres using the system across the UK and Europe and can offer patients the opportunity to trial, ask about Medtrum at your diabetes centre today. Before I got the Medtrum pump and CGM, this is what I felt my dream house would look like! There was just so much equipment with a tubed pump!
The cartridges, the tubing and then infusion set, all wrapped in far too much plastic waste, in separate boxes, it was a nightmare!
It was so easy to overlook what actual items I had and forget to order items! It all took so much space the organisation was too complicated for me as a child. Also, when I went to my Grandparents on the weekends, we had to make sure we had 3 boxes of equipment kept there in case the set needed changing; it wasn’t easy carrying all of that on the bus with my bags as well!
However, with Medtrum, everything is in one patch! No need for 3 separate boxes you need to connect together, everything is preassembled! When I come home from university, I just pop one box in my bag (which has 10 patches) and I’m good for the week! Much better than having all the parts loose in my bag which could leave them damaged, or alternatively carrying 3 full boxes!

I love going to the cinema!
I recently went to go watch one of my favourite films at the cinema, which obviously included getting a big bucket of salted popcorn and a frozen slush drink!
However, the only problem is that with these delicious treats, as a diabetic I need to have some insulin with this. With an insulin pen, I wouldn’t be able to see in the dark to do my injection, so I would either have to leave the cinema for a high carb treat, like some chocolate, to give myself the insulin, or bolus before the film and risk going high or low!
Luckily with Medtrum, I’m able to do an extended bolus! After the cashier rings up my items, I put into my phone the amount of carbs and then select the option to keep the insulin going for the duration of the movie (minus 30 minutes as this is how long it takes for the insulin to start working).
This method means that I can slowly snack on my popcorn whilst staying within range! I don’t go low if I eat too slow and I don’t have to rush to finish my snack!
What about you? What’s your favourite movie snacks and how do you sort out the bolusing?

I’ve recently been put on metformin and wow has it helped!
Despite all my best efforts, my diabetes has always been chaotic, I’ve been up to 100 units needed a day despite not eating many carbohydrates. I’ve also had bad acne, been gaining weight (despite a healthy diet and added exercise) and other lovely symptoms. This all lead my amazing diabetes doctor to start me on metformin and test me for conditions like Addison’s disease. Currently, we are thinking that I may have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) but I luckily don’t seem to have any cysts.
The metformin has helped SO much! I’ve gone from using my pumps in less than 2 days to now lasting more than 3 days! Obviously I have to change it on the third day, which helps keep me on track as I would totally leave it if given the chance 😉. It’s also helped me lose a lot of my bloating and water weight, which I’m really happy about! This is probably because I’ve been drinking extra water, but I’m not complaining! The only downside is the first few weeks you get some nasty side effects, especially the nausea, but otherwise I love it!

You started yours yet? What are you asking for?
This Christmas, I would really like a nice scarf to keep my

Who else HATES injections?

I was diagnosed at 2 years old, and put on a pump at 4, so I’ve never known any different and never got used to injevtions injections 😬

When my old pump (not Medtrum) broke for a few days, I hated the injections. My body produced sore lumps after each injection, and after one injection in every part of my body I could have one, i ran out of spaces and had to have them done in the sore parts! I think I cried with happiness when my replacement came!
