💜 Supporting Independence at Lingwell Rise 💜

When we say at Amethyst that we involve our tenants in their care plans, we truly mean it. Our approach is all about preparing the people we support for the future, equipping them with the confidence, skills, and resilience they need for whatever challenges they may encounter when they are ready to move on to the next stage of their lives.

At Lingwell Rise, we are proud to celebrate a wonderful milestone that shows just how powerful the right support and determination can be.
One of our tenants has recently achieved a fantastic personal goal by successfully passing their driving test. This is an incredible accomplishment and a huge step toward greater independence. Being able to drive opens up many opportunities, from increased freedom to new possibilities for work, social life, and personal growth.

This is a truly significant moment that reflects the progress, confidence, and life skills they have developed during their time with us.
This achievement is a testament to the dedication and determination of our tenants. It is also made possible through the guidance and encouragement of our supportive and committed staff team, who work tirelessly every day to help individuals reach their full potential.

At Amethyst, moments like these remind us why person-centred support matters so much, because every step forward, no matter how big or small, brings our tenants closer to living the life they choose.

💜 Celebrating Progress at Mill Residence 💜

At Mill Residence, we are so proud of SJ and the incredible effort she has been making towards her wellbeing.
SJ has been working hard to step outside her comfort zone and attend the gym regularly. She understands how important exercise is for her mental health, and despite challenges, she continues to push herself forward. That determination is truly inspiring.

With the consistent encouragement and support of our dedicated staff team, SJ is building healthy routines that not only strengthen her body but also uplift her mind. Every visit to the gym is more than just a workout. It’s a step towards confidence, resilience, and independence.

At Amethyst, we believe that care should never be one-size-fits-all. We actively involve our tenants in their care planning, listening closely to their goals, preferences, and aspirations. By tailoring support to individual needs and wants, we empower the people we support to take ownership of their journey.

SJ’s progress is a wonderful reminder of what can be achieved when determination meets the right support.

🎄✨ Festive Fun at Phoenix House ✨🎄

In the lead-up to Christmas, staff and tenants at Phoenix House came together to enjoy some festive activities and quality time as a community. 🎅🎬

The celebrations included a lovely communal gathering in the communal lounge, where everyone enjoyed spending time together, as well as a cinema trip for some tenants to watch a movie and get into the Christmas spirit.

It was great to see everyone engaging, sharing smiles, and creating positive memories during this festive season.

A big thank you to the tenants and staff of Phoenix House who made this possible and helped create such a warm and enjoyable experience for all. 🌟🎁

🎄 Austhorpe Road Christmas Pyjama Day! 🎄

Today at Austhorpe Road, our tenants and staff came together to kick off the festive season with a colourful Christmas Pyjama Day and what a joyful day it was!

Everyone turned up in their bright, fun, and cosy pyjamas, filling the service with laughter, warmth, and the true spirit of Christmas. The celebration continued in the communal lounge where we all enjoyed friendly board-game competitions and some delicious pancakes. 🥞✨

It was heart-warming to see both staff and tenants participating and creating such a cheerful atmosphere.

A huge thank you to all our amazing support workers and tenants who made this day possible. Your effort, energy, and festive spirit truly made Austhorpe Road shine! ❤️🎅🎁

🌟 Celebrating Femi! 🌟

Today, we want to shine a special spotlight on someone who represents what growth, dedication, and perseverance truly look like at Amethyst.

Femi joined us about three years ago, and through his commitment and hard work, he became the very first staff member to be offered a Certificate of Sponsorship by Amethyst, a milestone we remain incredibly proud of.

Since then, Femi has continued to grow both professionally and personally. Recently, he purchased his own car and also tied the knot! 🚗💍
These are the kinds of achievements we love to see within our services, staff progressing, thriving, and building beautiful futures for themselves.

We are also proud to share that since sponsoring Femi, Amethyst has gone on to sponsor a further 18 amazing staff members who now work across all 8 services. This is a huge accomplishment for us and a reflection of our commitment to developing our workforce and supporting their long-term growth.

🌟 A Vibrant End to Late Summer at Amethyst! 🍁🎃

As we wrap up the last three months and step into the winter season, we’re proud to reflect on the wonderful activities, milestones, and community moments across our services. It’s truly been a season filled with connection, growth, and celebration!

From picnics and outdoor hangouts to creative Halloween decorations, Bonfire Night events, and service-wide celebrations, our tenants embraced every opportunity to enjoy the season and engage with their communities.

✨ Highlights Across Our Services:

🚗 Austhorpe Road: A huge congratulations to TK for successfully obtaining his driver’s licence. A remarkable personal milestone!

🎉 Arch House & Springfield: Tenants came together to host their very own festival, Arch Fest, filled with music, food, joy, and togetherness.

🏡 Cliffe House: Hosted a lively and inclusive Halloween Party, welcoming tenants from other services to join in the celebrations.

🏠 Beech House:
• KM proudly began volunteering in a charity shop, building confidence and community involvement.
• CT and IM have been actively out and about, engaging in their daily activities with ongoing support and encouragement from staff.

💃 Mill Residence:
The ladies of Mill Residence have been out and about, visiting fun places, building memories, and enjoying a beautiful Halloween and Bonfire Night together. Their participation, confidence, and smiles truly lit up the season!

🏘️ Lingwell Rise Bungalows:
Now fully functional and thriving, our new tenants have settled in wonderfully. They are happy, engaging well, and already having a swell time in their new home.

🌿 Across all our services, tenants have been going out more, interacting with their environment, and embracing meaningful experiences that build confidence and independence.
These moments highlight what truly matters at Amethyst: creating opportunities, supporting growth, and empowering every individual to live a fulfilling and self-directed life.

🎉 Arch Fest – A Celebration of Community

This week, tenants and staff from both Arch House and Springfield Court came together for a very special event – Arch Fest! The day was filled with joy, laughter and plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy.

From fun games and a sizzling barbecue to colourful face painting, there was something for all to take part in. Springfield Court tenants particularly enjoyed the excitement of the piñata, which brought lots of smiles and laughter.

Events like Arch Fest are a wonderful way of strengthening community bonds, encouraging social interaction, and creating happy memories that everyone can look back on with pride.

A huge thank you goes to our staff teams for organising such a successful and inclusive day, and to our tenants for making it so lively and enjoyable. 💜

🌟 Meet Our New Mental Health Leads! 🌟

Leah Canning

Leah brings a wealth of experience from the NHS, higher education, and the third sector. Her passion lies in supporting recovery through meaningful, person-centred care. Leah has worked with individuals experiencing complex psychosis and has collaborated across clinical and community teams to deliver impactful, recovery-focused support.

Armed with an MSc in Psychology and specialised mental health training, Leah brings knowledge, compassion, and adaptability to everything she does. Outside of work, she’s a British Ice-Skating Coach who loves travelling, good food, and staying active!

Vanessa Findlay

With over a decade of experience in the NHS and Third Sector, Vanessa's approach is rooted in compassion, dignity, and respect. She believes wholeheartedly in placing individuals at the centre of their care and honours each person’s unique story. Vanessa holds a degree in social psychology, a master’s in psychology, and a postgraduate certification in interpersonal skills and counselling.

Her special interest in peer support continues to shape her practice as she constantly explores how services can evolve to better serve people. When she’s not working, Vanessa enjoys reading, rock climbing, and spending time with her loved ones.

We’re truly lucky to have Leah and Vanessa join us in leading this vital work, their dedication to mental health, their empathy, and their drive to create real, lasting change is already making a difference.

🎉 Farewell and Thank You, Gary! 🎉

After more than three incredible decades supporting people with a mental health diagnosis—and three years working with us at Amethyst—our Mental Health and Wellness Lead, Gary, is retiring.

Gary's journey started in the most unexpected way: from a trainee accountant to discovering a life-long calling in mental health, sparked by a chance conversation. Since then, he’s dedicated his life to supporting others with compassion, insight, and heart.
In his own words:

"We support people and not the illness they are experiencing... They are all human; they all have dreams; they all have aspirations; they are all valued members of the community. Treat them as such and they will flourish_."

Gary, your words have inspired us, your leadership has shaped us, and your support and knowledge has helped not only the people we support but also the people who work within Amethyst.

As you head into retirement—spending time with family, tending your allotment, travelling, and (maybe) writing that long-awaited book—we want to say a heartfelt THANK YOU.
