Cancer affects us all.
Today, on World Cancer Day, we're reflecting that for many of our patients the impact of cancer doesn’t end when treatment finishes. We see first-hand how common secondary lymphoedema is following cancer treatment - and how shocking its onset can be.
In so many cases, people have never even heard of lymphoedema, or understood the role of the lymphatic system, before undergoing essential cancer treatment. Developing lymphoedema can therefore come as a huge shock, bringing with it the reality of a lifelong condition that requires daily management and ongoing self-care.
Like Tracey, who developed secondary lymphoedema following her breast cancer treatment and now wears her compression arm sleeve every day to help keep swelling under control, so she can live the life she wants to.
Lymphoedema is just one of the many lasting impacts of cancer. There are so very many more - physical, emotional and practical - that patients live with every day.
At Patient Choice, we’re here for people affected by secondary lymphoedema following cancer treatment. Supporting access to medical-grade compression garments is just one important part of the jigsaw in improving treatment outcomes and quality of life.
