ESL Body Works treating all muscoskeketal injuries and common aches and pains along with rebuilding strength, balance, and mobility through strength and conditioning

What is Sports Massage Therapy and why choose it? The prime purpose of sports massage therapy is to help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body’s soft tissues during physical activity. Where minor injuries and lesions occur, due to overexertion and/or overuse, massage can break them down quickly and effectively. Above all, it can help prevent those niggling injuries that so often get in the way of performance and achievement, whether one is an athlete, ardent keep-fitter or a once a week jogger. This treatment is not just for the sports person: anyone can benefit from sports massage, including people in physically demanding jobs and those not quite so obvious (occupational, emotional and postural stress may produce many similar characteristics to sports injuries). Sports massage tends to be deeper and more intense. It is based on the various elements of Swedish massage and often incorporates a combination of other techniques involving stretching, compression, friction, toning, and trigger point response techniques similar to Acupressure and Shiatsu. The skilled therapist brings together this blend of techniques, knowledge and advice during treatment, to work effectively with the client to bring about optimum performance and to provide injury-free training and minimise post event injuries. There are three areas where sports massage is used to benefit athletes. Maintenance Massage:
A regular massage treatment programme based on the therapist’s understanding of anatomy and of the muscles used in a given sport and which are likely candidates for trouble. By concentrating on particular muscle groups the therapist can help the athlete maintain or improve range of motion and muscle flexibility. Event Massage:
Pre-event and post-event massage therapies are tailored for distinct purposes. Pre-event treatment is used as a supplement to an athlete’s warm-up to enhance circulation and reduce excess muscle and mental tension prior to competition. It is tailored to the needs of the athlete and his/her event and can be relaxing or stimulating as appropriate. Post-event massage, on the other hand, is geared towards reducing the muscle spasms and metabolic build-up that occur with rigorous exercise. Various sports massage techniques enhance the body’s own recovery process improving the athlete’s ability to return to training and competition, and reducing the risk of injury. Rehabilitation:
Even with preventative maintenance, muscles cramp, tear, bruise, and ache. Sports massage can speed healing and reduce discomfort during the rehabilitation process. Soft tissue techniques employed by sports massage therapists are effective in the management of both acute and chronic injuries. Trigger point techniques reduce the spasm and pain that occur both in the injured and “compensation” muscles. Cross-fibre friction techniques can help with healing by improved formation of strong and flexible repair tissue, which is vital in maintaining full pain-free range of motion during rehabilitation. In all cases, such massage techniques are employed in collaboration with other appropriate medical care.

A lovely outcome for a client of mine who suffers from painful legs and moving toes as a result of a Spinal injury occurred 6 years ago. Whilst still able to walk there is neurological damage as a result of her injuries which cause aggressive involuntary movements, we tried gentle massage and manual techniques and it appears that we have been successful in helping her get some respite from her condition.

Her condition has also left her needing a specialised strength and conditioning programme to help her ride, focusing on her glutes and pelvic floor currently

✨ Your fitness = your horse’s comfort.

We spend hours building our horse’s fitness… but rider fitness matters just as much.

Good balance, core control, stability, and mobility help us ride with a lighter seat and softer hands.
When we’re unfit, we tend to bounce, grip, collapse to one side, fatigue, and rely on the reins for balance — and our horses feel every bit of it. 🐎💛

Improving our own body control means:
🌿 A lighter, more stable seat
🌿 Softer, more consistent contact
🌿 Clearer communication
🌿 Less physical and mental stress for the horse

Your horse moves better when you move better.
Ride light. Ride kind. ✨

With my clients permission im going to tell this story.

When Sarah first walked into the clinic, she said,l “I’m not sure what I’ve done but it feels like my shoulders have turned into rock.”
Sarah is training for a 10k, juggling work, and spending way too many hours hunched over her laptop but is also in remission for breast cancer. On examination l could see that her shoulders were hunched up and forward. She was struggling with her breathing as a result and just felt that her running wasnt progressing. Sarah has had the go ahead for treatment from myself from her dr and had recently had tests to make sure she was all clear of any cancer. So it was safe to treat her.

During her treatment I felt she was holding more tension than she realised. With slow, focused myofascial release techniques, amd some gentle manual movements, that stubborn tightness began to relieve Sarah kept saying, “I didn’t even know I was tight there!”

By the end of the session she said
“Wow… I feel lighter. I feel like im bouncing off a cloud!"

She rang me to rebook and said that she noticed things she hadn’t felt in ages:
✔ She could turn her head without that sharp pull
✔ Her morning runs felt smoother
✔ Sitting at her desk didn’t leave her aching
✔ Her breathing had improved

and in her words "my mental health has improved, i felt calm and less worried".

Massage/manual therapy is neurological, from touch and from talking or if you prefer just from having an hour to be calm and silent. All appointments are confidential with no judgement, just a safe space to off load and rejuvinate whether it be physically and or mentally.
