๐ Salbutamol inhalers are โrelieverโ medications, intended for occasional use during sudden asthma symptoms or attacks. Needing more than 3 a year may be a sign that your asthma is not well controlled, which can increase the risk of severe attacks and hospital admissions.

Reliever inhalers only treat symptoms โ they donโt address the underlying inflammation that causes asthma. Preventer treatments keep asthma under control long-term.

For people whose asthma is not well controlled on inhaled corticosteroids alone, a combined inhaler (containing a preventer plus a fast-acting but long-lasting reliever) may be recommended. These inhalers can be used both for daily prevention and quick relief of symptoms and are considered a much safer option than relying on salbutamol alone.
๐ Reducing over-reliance on blue inhalers helps keep people safe, lowers avoidable hospital visits, and is better for the environment.

We invite every patient to the surgery for an annual asthma review, but not everyone attends. For those who have not attended an asthma review in the last 6 months, we will review their records. ๐๐ณ ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ถ๐ฟ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ป๐๐ฎ๐น ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐ ๐ถ๐ ๐ฑ๐๐ฒ ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ป๐ฒ๐
๐ ๐ณ๐ฒ๐ ๐บ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ต๐, ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ถ๐น๐น ๐๐ฎ๐ถ๐ ๐๐ป๐๐ถ๐น ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ป ๐๐ผ ๐บ๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฎ๐ป๐ด๐ฒ๐.
๐ธ If salbutamol is being overused, we will reduce the number prescribed each year to 3.
๐ธAt the same time, we will ensure patients are on the most appropriate preventer inhaler. In many cases, this will be a combined preventer/reliever inhaler.
