I am writing about my dad Brian Jackson, who many of you will know from his years in the dental industry selling the first ever intraoral cameras 30 odd years ago, to his tireless promotion of the Wand. His philosophy has always been to help make life better for the patient and easier for the dentist. Up until 3 months ago he was enjoying playing tennis a couple of times a week and walking his dog every day. 2 months ago he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. He is taking alternative treatment, but he has descended rapidly this week, to being bed bound. Going back in time. When we were selling the first available cosmetic imaging software in 1993. Dr Phil Stemmer asked us to come in to his Harley Street Practice to photograph Scorpio from the Gladiators and use our cosmetic imaging software to show how she would look. Run of the mill nowadays, but cutting edge 31 years ago. Needless to say dentists weren't yet ready for the technology. Demonstrations involved taking a full size computer, computer screen, tv screen, keyboard, camera, printer and video player into a surgery. How far we've come.

I have been using WamKey® for many years and teach the simple technique for crown and bridge removal on my courses.
Three easy steps:
1. Cut a small buccal or lingual window to accommodate the WamKey®.
2. Cutting along the cement line, go as deep as the centre of the occlusal plane
3. Do not use a lever action, simply rotate the Wamkey 1 and the crown uncements
Should the WamKey® 1 rotate within the core, use the slightly larger WamKey® 2. You will only sometimes need to go up to WamKey® 3 but do have it just in case
WamKeys are robust and autoclavable so if you buy a set (WamKeys 1,2 and 3), it will probably last your career.
I don’t think there is a better, more reliable or predictable method for premolar and molar crown removal, it’s a life changer!

Air abrasion made easy. I am a big fan of chair-side air abrasion. It is an incredible clinical tool to clean temporary cement off a tooth prior to adhesively placing a final restoration, prepare certain restorative materials for bonding and even complete some small cavity preparations. For years I have pushed through the inconvenience of the equipment for air abrasion due to the benefits it presents technically.
