R Bradley Osteopathy Holistic and individualised treatment for general well being through osteopathic care

Osteopathic treatment that is both holistic and bespoke as it focuses on the specific needs of the individual client. Treatments are adapted and refined as the client proceeds through their sessions and includes providing advice and information on action and appropriate lifestyle changes to be implemented between sessions and to continue once sessions have been completed. Having undertaken 4 years of study at the European School of Osteopathy and successfully completed my Integrated Masters I acquired a solid foundation of knowledge to which I have continued to extend my knowledge and my commitment to ensuring I can serve my clients across a broad range of issues. I have an interest in Women's Health within Osteopathy resulting in significant time invested in researching and studying women’s health. I recently completed a 2 year post-graduate focusing on women’s health with lectures from the UK, Europe, US and Canada. This is to support the needs of women going through pregnancy and new mothers who need to meet their changing physical needs and to be active and fit to care for their new family. Alongside this I have developed an extensive network of well-being and healthcare professionals to whom I can refer clients who need additional support or have aspects of their issues which need other health or lifestyle advice.

Have you ever thought how uncomfortable a tortoise’s neck looks. Well this is how many of us sit when we’re at our desks in front of a computer screen.

There are two pieces of advice I give on a regular bases
* Set a timer for 45 minutes. The first time it goes, sit back up and move a little in your seat. The second time it goes, get up and go and get a glass of water. Repeat this throughout the day.

* Book your eye test, if it's not up to date. If your glasses prescription is wrong you could be straining your eyes and holding your neck at an awkward position in order to see the screen properly. This then has knock on effects to the muscles in your neck and upper back.

I was reminded of this image when I went to talk to my children's classes at school recently. Did you know that looking down at your phone can make your head effectively 6 times heavier than if you were looking straight ahead. It means that the muscles in your neck and upper back have to work much harder to support you head. It's better to lift your phone a bit to look at it rather than look down at it when it's held low.

I often recommend Gemma West (women’s health physio) to compliment my treatments, her knowledge and guidance in strengthening the pelvic floor and re engaging the core muscles are invaluable. Yesterday I had the pleasure of experiencing her postnatal exercise group class on Zoom (much needed after 2 children!) It was fantastic and I will now be recommending these as well 😀

Having you been wearing high heels during December? If you're suffering from back pain, remember wearing heels causes the lower back to arch more than normal, the muscles at the back of the legs to tense more and your weight to go through a smaller area. Spending hours with your body in a different alignment can lead to muscle spasms and back pain. Maybe consider lower heels or flats over the Christmas break.

I love to read. Here's a back-friendly reading tip - pop a cushion under your elbows whilst reading so you raise your book to be in front of your eyes. You will really notice the difference it makes to the strain on your neck.

What is ? I get asked this a lot. My definition is a manual therapy which looks at the whole person on an individual basis and involves a range of hands-on techniques to treat a range of conditions, including back and neck pain, arthritic pain, sports injuries and cervicogenic headaches and general aches and pains.
