Bloating is a symptom reported by both men and women when they come to see us for their colon hydrotherapy, however it’s very important to note that the effect of treatment can differ between men and women, because of body differences and the causes of bloating in the first place.
Hormonal changes can cause water retention, slowed digestion, and increased bloating for women, particularly in the week before menstruation. Men obviously don’t need to worry about such changes.
Studies suggest that women may have a more sensitive gastrointestinal (GI) tract. They're more likely to report bloating and abdominal discomfort, even with similar amounts of gas or food intake as men.
Women also generally have a higher percentage of body fat and a lower percentage of abdominal muscle tone, which might make bloating appear more visible and feel more uncomfortable. Often, a man’s higher abdominal muscle tone can help reduce the visible and physical sensation of bloating.
