Here’s the latest advice from the Department of Health on Coronavirus:

Anybody that has a new continuous cough or a high temperature should stay at home for seven days (+37.8 degrees). People with very minor symptoms should not call 111.

Most people who get COVID-19 will be able to self-manage at home, as they would with the flu. This will help to reduce the burden on the health service. We will focus our testing on those in hospital with symptoms and remove geographical limits on who gets tested. We will focus our testing on those in hospital with symptoms and remove geographical limits on who gets tested.

This will ensure people don’t pass the infection on in hospital and patients who are seriously ill with COVID-19 will get the best available care.

Schools will remain open for now. The effect of closing schools is somewhat limited for this disease. Closing schools may also have the effect of children going to stay with grandparents at a time when older people might be most vulnerable.

We will then introduce social distancing measures around vulnerable people.

If we implement this too early, there will be big practical implications including loneliness.

Whilst we will need to move to that stage, experts advise we have not yet reached that moment.
