Got a few trophies out of the boxes in the loft to remind myself that I used to ’have a go’ 😀

10 weeks into my little cut back/possible comp prep and down from 191lbs to 175lbs. So 16lbs lost and an average of 1.6lbs per week. Apart from 11 days stuck on 179lbs, fairly consistent loss.
Historic best contest weight is around 158-160lbs so probably about half way, although the actual weight is irrelevant.
Had to go to 2-3 days low carbohydrates (80-100g) then a day of higher carbs (200g) to get past 179lb. I have had to do this in the past too.
Just starting to feel it a bit but much less aggressive than in 2018(?) where I had to lose 2lb per week for 24-26 weeks to get to 161lbs and look crap. Far easier to be 30lbs+ over contest weight than 50lbs.
Next stage is to get to 170lbs in a few weeks. Then see what I look like, decide if I have the desire to do the silly bit and lose the final 10lbs or so, get shaved everywhere, covered in fake tan and prance about on stage. Stupid sport 😂
Needs to be all done by July so I can enjoyed some proper time in France.
Bon courage!

Just got my free tickets to the ‘allergy and free from’ winter show. Held at the exhibition centre Kings Dock Liverpool.

Not been for a couple of years so will be interesting to see what’s there. It’s free to the public if you book in advance.

Like any exhibition it’s really about trying to sell you things but it can also be a great source of information. So if you have an allergy or food intolerances it can be worth a visit.

Is it really 8 months since I’ve posted on here. Well time flies when you’re having fun they say, and they’re right too 🙂.

Back now from a summer spent mostly in France working on our main goal. So its back to basics for the winter with my early morning walks and training with a simple Mon/Weds/Fri using push/pull/legs workouts.

I’m also in the position to start taking clients on again with plenty of daytime slots and even a few evening slots still available. So if you’re local and want to get started on your own health improvement journey get in touch.

Back to 300k on the leg press. The days of 12 with 400 and 6 with 500 after squats seem a long time ago. Currently doing extensions then leg press then squats followed by hamstrings. Fab fab pump today 👍

End of a 12 week programme working at 6-8 reps and using an isolation exercise first before my compound movements. Goal was 100kg for bent over rows and incline press. 5 reps on the rows but starting to lose technique and couldn't get a double with the inclines. Might have one more go with the inclines on Monday before changing my programme/exercises. Progressive 12 weeks though 💪🙂

Quick update and first post since October. Really busy winter training season for myself and with clients. Got some pb's but hitting a bit of a plateau on a few exercises so time for a few extra days rest and perhaps a reshuffle of exercises.

Clip is incline press at 45 degrees with 2" thick bar and 80kg. 3rd session stuck at 6reps. This follows 90kg at 30 degrees and stuck at 5 reps. Currently aiming for between 6-8 reps.

Came out of Christmas and new year a stone light than in 2018 which is great and now starting to strip fat ready for the summer.

Registered for another batch of CPD webinars. Really important to keep my functional health knowledge both wide ranging and up to date with the latest research. Pretty much one per week for the next 6 weeks 🙂

With the kids back at school perhaps now is the right time to invest in your own health and make those changes you have always wanted to get around to. With my own competitive preparations finished for this year I have some more daytime and even one or 2 evening slots available.

Without doubt resistance training, such as working out with weights, has huge benefits for women’s health if done correctly.

Improves your shape and tone
Improves your cardiovascular system
Increases your bone density & strength
Improves your general strength for everyday activities
Strengthens your connective tissues to help joint stability and prevent injuries
Increases your metabolism for weight (fat) loss
Improves your self esteem & confidence

to mention just a few and is far better than just doing hours of pointless boring cardio work on a treadmill or cross trainer.

A lot of people in most gyms do not actually know what they are doing, as such they don’t know how to structure a programme or sometimes even how to do the exercises correctly in order to get the most from their efforts. Not to mention stay injury free.

With nearly 40 years training experience every programme I write for a client is individual to them. Personal Training with me is completely private, in a fully equipped studio, that ensures you get the most from your efforts and helps you achieve your goals both quickly and safely. So if you are looking to start make some changes or even to fine tune what you are currently doing give me a call for a chat about how you could get started or to arrange to come in and meet and have a look around the studio.

"Everything works . . . for about 6 weeks" Really interesting read. Never read or heard any of his stuff before. Not sure about the 6 weeks or even with a lot of his stuff (for me) but certainly agree with changing things around a bit once in a while to provide a new stimulus. Coming from an Olympic discus throwing background there's a lot of functional/athletic training ideas in here that I will probably move towards longer term and I do like training outdoors too.

Agree with working mostly on the big basic exercises and not wasting too much time with the little frilly exercises. Well worth a read.

Appetite through the roof but not getting any post comp cravings as such. Don't really like junk food although I do have a list of a few bits I've not had for a while so will fit them in over the next few weeks.

Had an Indian takeaway Sunday and a nice roast dinner yesterday. Much prefer real food to processed food. Tea tonight chicken and chorizo with brown rice, garlic, mushrooms, red onion, peppers, peas, sweet corn, Spanish herb mix, smoked paprika, fenugreek yum yum. Always important to make enough for lunch the next day, although have just eaten this one for my supper instead 😁

Plan is to build back up to around 3000kcal and prob around 400g of carbs. Plenty of energy from real food for some good tough workouts.
