Thanks to everyone who joined Leigh and myself at our Open Day at Churchill Square last week.

It was great to see some familiar faces and welcome some new visitors to the clinic. We also took the opportunity to give you a sneak peek into your ears, which saw some mixed reactions!

Ear wax is a common sight and is naturally produced by glands in the ear canal to protect, clean, and lubricate our ears. When too much earwax accumulates or becomes impacted, it can muffle sound and even block the ear canal, leading to temporary hearing loss.

To prevent infection and injury, keep your outer ears clean with soap and water, but never put anything in your ear canal. If you are having problems hearing or think you have a build-up of ear wax, you can book an appointment with us and we can take a look and discuss the best treatment to suit you.

No tricks – just treats 🎃

This Halloween, don’t let noisy parties play tricks on your hearing. 🍭

While in quiet settings you may be able to hear just fine, in noisy places, like restaurants or bars - you might struggle to keep track of the conversation.

Even if you think your hearing is OK, early intervention can help prevent further decline, improve communication, and reduce strain on your brain.

Protect your hearing at work

From construction and agriculture to manufacturing and transport, we know that many industries take hearing protection and the health and safety of their employees seriously - yet everyday exposure to loud machinery and noise can still potentially put hearing at risk over time.

I’d welcome the opportunity to work with companies to offer on-site hearing tests and also look at ways to make hearing protection even more comfortable.

In the meantime here are my top five healthy hearing habits:

1️⃣ Take regular breaks and give your ears time out.
2️⃣ Ensure ear protection fits correctly – a snug fit makes all the difference.
3️⃣ Keep earplugs and noise-cancelling headphones clean to keep them effective.
4️⃣ Report noisy or faulty machinery – well-maintained tools tend to run more quietly.
5️⃣ Get regular hearing checks – annual exams can spot early signs of hearing loss.
