Tinnitus affects over seven million adults in the UK. For some it’s a gentle hiss or whistle, while for others it can sound as loud as traffic or machinery.
Tinnitus can feel overwhelming, but there are ways to manage it. Options may include sound therapy, hearing aids (where hearing loss is present), relaxation techniques, mindfulness, and cognitive behavioural therapy.
New research is also showing promise, with sound therapies using everyday devices like smartphones and headphones offering hope for reducing the perceived loudness of tinnitus.
