👂 Tinnitus Awareness Week | 2–9 February 2026

Tinnitus affects over seven million adults in the UK. For some it’s a gentle hiss or whistle, while for others it can sound as loud as traffic or machinery.

Tinnitus can feel overwhelming, but there are ways to manage it. Options may include sound therapy, hearing aids (where hearing loss is present), relaxation techniques, mindfulness, and cognitive behavioural therapy.

New research is also showing promise, with sound therapies using everyday devices like smartphones and headphones offering hope for reducing the perceived loudness of tinnitus.

If tinnitus is affecting you, there are a number of different options which may be able to help. Get in touch with the team at as you’re not on your own.

A driving force for good

Always such a pleasure to support John Nicholson at Community Driving School CIC (CDS) and as always these events are pretty special. And a big thank you to the guests who came up to the stage to let me examine their ears!

John has a knack of finding people who need his help but he can’t do it on his own, so the point is he needs all the help he can get - whether that’s emotional, financial, practical support or a cheerleader – whatever your role it could make all the difference to someone.

Under his guidance, CDS has grown into a vital community resource that drives change and helps to change lives. If you want to learn more or support their work visit thecds.org.uk Community Driving School.

👂 Let’s talk hearing health at Wi******er House Care Home

Spreading the word about hearing health really matters, which is why I’m hitting the road, as I’m delighted to be speaking at Wi******er House Care Home on Friday 23 January.

This short, informative presentation will share simple, practical advice on how to look after your hearing and recognise early signs of change.

Following the talk, I’ll be hosting a drop-in stand in the reception area, where visitors can:

✔️ Pick up helpful leaflets
✔️ Ask questions in a friendly, informal setting
✔️ Take a peek inside their ears using a specialist camera 👀

👉 If you work in a care home, clinic or community centre and would be interested in hosting a similar talk or drop-in session, please do get in touch. These events are a great way to start conversations and support better hearing health.

👂 Is your hearing changing? Here are five signs to watch for…

If conversations feel harder than they used to, your hearing could be changing.

âś” Asking people to repeat themselves
âś” Finding background noise overwhelming
âś” Turning up the volume on your devices such as your phone ringtone or the TV
âś” Feeling tired or frustrated after conversations
âś” Thinking people are mumbling

The good news? Early support can make a big difference. A simple hearing check can restore confidence, improve communication, and help you stay connected to the people and moments that matter.

A new year often brings fresh goals around physical health and nutrition. What’s less well known is that these healthy choices don’t just benefit your body — they can also support your hearing health. 🥗

A balanced diet helps protect the delicate structures of the inner ear. Nutrients like vitamins A, B, C and E, omega-3s (found in oily fish) and magnesium support healthy blood flow and help guard against hearing loss.

👉 Looking after your hearing is part of looking after yourself. A hearing health check is easy, comfortable, and could make a real difference. Get in touch at to find out more.

Behind the scenes

For many people, booking a hearing test can feel daunting - but the reality is that it’s more straightforward than you might think.

It starts with a chat about your hearing and lifestyle, followed by a couple of tests. Firstly, you’ll be asked to listen to various sounds and tones through a pair of headphones. Then you will be asked to listen to a series of recorded voices with varying levels of background noise to gauge how well you can hear the conversation.

I’ll also take a look into your ears using a specialist camera to check the health of your eardrum, and you can take a look for yourself, but only if you want to.

Festive hearing tips
If you’re spending Christmas with family or friends who have hearing loss, here are a few tips to make your seasonal celebrations get off to a good start.

One at a time please
Festive get togethers can be a noisy affair so take it in turns to speak, and try not to talk over one another.

Ask how you can help
If you’re watching a family film together, you could consider turning on the subtitles.

Make sure your room is well lit
Good lighting makes lip-reading and facial cues much easier to see.

Keep background noise low
Make sure your Christmas play list isn’t blasting out to avoid shouting over the music.

A little thought helps everyone feel included. 🎅✨
