This is the second in today’s set of three visuals on When My Amygdala is Triggered — this time focusing on the primary years.

These are the years where children can often talk about feelings, but in the moment, their bodies can still become overwhelmed and reactive.
The reaction isn’t chosen. The behaviour is communication. And our calm is still the anchor.

Ore Oduba breaks his silence on the taboo subject to help his own children and others dealing with the problem ".

A former Strictly Come Dancing winner has revealed that a 30-year battle with p**n addiction had been “destroying” his life.

[via Telegraph article, 04 November 2025 by India McTaggart ]

Ore Oduba, 39, a TV presenter, spoke candidly about his struggles with p**nography, saying it began when he was nine years old.

Speaking on the We Need To Talk podcast with Paul C Brunson, he said he was breaking his silence on the taboo subject to help his own children and others who might be dealing with it.

“A year and a half ago I was able to escape an addiction that had dogged me for nearly 30 years,” the father of two said.

Oduba added: “Shame kept me silent for 30 years. It took me 30 years, two deaths, and a divorce to finally go: here’s what’s happening.”

Explaining the origin of the problem, he said:

“Nine, that is when my addiction started, when I was introduced to p**nography, and I think only after everything that has happened, understanding how much of a thread that had been throughout my life, was I finally able to escape it.''

The presenter, who fronted CBBC’s Newsround from 2008 until 2013 and won Strictly with Joanne Clifton in 2016, said the first time he was shown p**n by a friend’s older brother was “innocuous”.

“I remember being very intrigued and a feeling of eyes being opened,” he added. “Whilst I wouldn’t say addiction set in immediately, the intrigue set in immediately and it didn’t take long for that intrigue to start running my mind over.”

Oduba’s revelation comes after the Government announced that choking women is to be banned from online p**n after a review found that it was encouraging boys to emulate the behaviour.

Amid a crackdown on violent p**nography, it was announced that the possession and publication of images depicting strangulation and suffocation will be criminalised with a maximum penalty of five years in jail.
