Halloween is a popular celebration especially with children and young people, but it can also be a daunting time for those living with dementia in our local communities.

It is widely accepted when out trick or treating to only knock on doors with pumpkins outside, but it is also important to be aware that people with dementia might find this time especially difficult so lets all be aware and be kind.

If you care for someone with dementia, be aware that lights, costumes, masks and noise can be frightening, disorientating and confusing but Halloween can still be enjoyed with some small adaptations.

🎃Decorate pumpkins together
🎃Reminisce over family photographs of previous events
🎃Bake autumnal treats
