If ever there was a reason to say the local hospital plans are stitching up residents outside Watford then this is it. While the Watford Hospital Trust CEO says the agreement with Watford council, Keir Construction and the trust has nothing to do with choosing Watford for their 3 fish finger buildings, something smells fishy.

Maybe we're wrong.. But when people pile in and make points on socials that bear no relation to common sense, local opinion or knowledge, but the tweeter seems to be wholly politically partisan, isn't it time to call out those views ? Eg

Here is an easy to digest explainer video of the "New hospital program". Note that West Herts are in the "pathfinder" category which was initially division 1, but is now delayed and in division 3. Thanks to Nick Carding at the Health Services Journal for the video.

In June 2021 we predicted this. "the treasury can’t sign off on the case because it doesn’t have public support and can’t demonstrate best use of public funds, then the current scheme proposed will fall on it’s face.".
Now it has become a reality. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/warring-ministers-hold-up-plans-to-build-40-hospitals-7d9q0jzs7?

Fortunately the leader of Hertfordshire County council saw through the political move from Watford to short circuit the official process. By writing to the prime minister and saying that funding is needed but NOT specifically for Watford, he keeps the county councils options - and ours, open. Not something the politicians from Watford wanted, but a reasonable outcome.

County Council leader has written to Boris Johnson

The government allocated £2.7bn for 6 new hospitals in 2019. The local NHS said they needed £410m in Watford and £50m split between St Albans and Hemel.
Now, 3 years later, the local NHS just said Watford will cost £1.1bn and St Albans and Hemel £160m between them.
Does anyone REALLY think they will get it? How would the other trusts feel if one of the 6 trusts wants almost half of the money available?

It's about time the sham plans are stopped. Maybe their fall back position is Watford getting less money, and St Albans and Hemel being chucked into the long grass.
