🌍 Antimicrobial Awareness Week | 18–24 November

This week, Nuffield Health Haywards Heath Hospital is joining the global call to use antibiotics and other antimicrobials responsibly. When these medicines are overused, they become less effective, making infections harder to treat and increasing the risk of serious illness.

🧼 How you can help
• Take antibiotics only when they’ve been prescribed for you.
• Don’t share them or keep any for later.
• Keep up good hand hygiene to help stop infections spreading.

🏥 How healthcare professionals help
• Prescribing antibiotics only when they’re truly needed.
• Choosing the right treatment, dose and duration.
• Reviewing treatment and stepping down from IV to oral where appropriate.
• Supporting patient understanding.
• Following strong infection prevention practices.

Pancreatic cancer can be hard to spot early because symptoms are often vague or like other common conditions. Paying attention to the warning signs and getting checked early can really make a difference.

🩺📅 Last night, we hosted our final Patient Information Evening of 2025 with Consultant General Surgeon Mr Antonios Athanasiou.

The evening was full of great questions and discussion as attendees learned about:
✅ How the gallbladder works and the role of bile
✅ Gallstones – symptoms, risk factors, and prevention
✅ Diagnosis options, including Ultrasound, MRCP, and ERCP
✅ Treatments, including laparoscopic surgery – benefits, risks, and recovery
✅ Lifestyle and diet advice for prevention and post-treatment care

A huge thank you to Mr Antonios Athanasiou for sharing his expertise and helping our community feel informed and reassured.

We will remember them 🌺
Today, on Remembrance Sunday, we pause to honour those who served and sacrificed during the First World War and the conflicts that followed.

At 11am, our hospital will observe a two-minute silence to remember the lives lost in service. We will also observe a two-minute silence at 11am on Armistice Day (11 November), marking the end of the First World War.

Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten. 🌺💚
