For many children living with nervous system dysregulation, their bodies are often working so hard just to stay upright in the world. Muscles are tense. Systems are stuck on high alert. And in that state, even the idea of “treatment” can feel like too much.

That’s why the devices we use at Flow are designed to ask very little of the child at all.

They can simply play. Or rest. Or sit quietly.

While they do, gentle signals help the nervous system begin to soften and settle, lowering the barriers that can make deeper support difficult to access when the body is stuck in stress or defence mode.

It’s simple. It’s calm. And often, it’s where regulation quietly begins.

From there, the body can start to find its way back to balance… and children can begin to reconnect with their natural steadiness and sense of self.

In the weeks leading up to opening the doors at Flow Yorkshire, we’ve been taking some time to slow down.

There has been a lot of excitement, planning and anticipation behind the scenes, but we’ve also made a conscious decision to pause, breathe, and take care of our own nervous systems before the busy-ness begins.

For us, this work is deeply personal. Supporting families, holding space for people, and welcoming you through our doors is a privilege we don’t take lightly. And we know that in order to do that well, we need to arrive grounded, calm and resourced ourselves.

So we’ve been spending some time resting, recharging, and enjoying a few quiet moments before this next chapter begins.

Very soon we’ll be ready to welcome you in — and we can’t wait.

With warmth,
Allanah & Neil

Sometimes the best therapy has four legs and a wagging tail 🐾

Spending time with animals can have a powerful effect on our nervous system. Simply stroking a dog, sitting beside a pet, or going for a walk together can help signal safety to the body; gently shifting us out of stress mode and into a calmer state.

Research shows that interacting with animals can help lower cortisol (our stress hormone), reduce heart rate, and increase oxytocin (the hormone linked to connection, trust and relaxation).

In a world where many of us are constantly “switched on,” pets can bring us back to the present moment. They encourage us to slow down, breathe, step outside, and experience simple connection without pressure or expectation.

Whether it’s a quiet moment on the sofa or a walk through nature, our animals often help regulate our nervous system in ways we may not even realise.

Have you got a four legged friend who has this effect on you? Tell us about him or her...

International Women’s Day is a beautiful moment to pause and reconnect with something many of us forget in the rush of everyday life; our feminine energy 🌟

Feminine energy isn’t about strength versus softness.
It’s about balance.

It’s the energy of slowing down when your body asks you to.
Of breathing deeply instead of pushing through.
Of listening inwardly rather than always looking outward.

When we allow ourselves to soften, our nervous system begins to settle. The body feels safer. The mind becomes quieter. Space opens for healing, clarity and calm.

In a world that often celebrates constant doing, today is a gentle reminder that there is also power in **being**.

✨ A softer way forward is possible.

Setting boundaries is often discussed as a social skill or a productivity hack. However, at its core, saying "no" is a vital biological necessity for a regulated nervous system.

When we constantly say "yes" to things we do not have the capacity for, our bodies enter a state of chronic high alert. We move into a "fight or flight" response because we are essentially over-committing our internal resources. This leads to a persistent feeling of being overwhelmed, which the brain perceives as a threat to our safety.

By setting a boundary, you are telling your nervous system that you are in control of your environment.
You are signalling to your body that it is safe to rest and that you do not need to stay in survival mode to please others or meet impossible expectations.

For many parents and caregivers, the guilt of saying "no" can feel heavy. But a dysregulated parent cannot effectively co-regulate a child. When you protect your own energy through clear boundaries, you are actually creating a more stable and calm environment for your entire family.

Saying "no" to an extra commitment is saying "yes" to your own internal peace. It is not an act of selfishness. It is an act of self-preservation that allows you to show up more fully for the things that truly matter.

Many parents believe that being a good role model means never losing your temper or making a mistake. However, the true foundation of a resilient family is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of repair.

When an argument happens or a voice is raised, the connection between parent and child is temporarily broken. For a child, this disconnection can feel like a threat to their safety, causing their nervous system to become dysregulated. If these moments are left unaddressed, the tension lingers and creates a sense of unease within the home.

The act of repair is the process of coming back together after a rupture. It involves acknowledging what happened, taking responsibility for your part in the conflict, and Reconnecting emotionally. When you say "I am sorry that I shouted and it was not your fault," you are providing your child with a powerful message of safety.

This process teaches a child that relationships can be messy and imperfect, but they are also fixable. It helps their nervous system return to a state of rest because they no longer have to carry the weight of the unresolved conflict.

Repair is more important than perfection. It is the bridge that moves a family from a state of "battleground" back into a state of "flow." Every time you repair a connection, you are strengthening the emotional bond and building a more secure environment for everyone involved.

If you’re thinking about booking a consultation with Flow Yorkshire, this video is here to help you know exactly what to expect, especially if you’re coming along with your child.

First things first: we understand that trying somewhere new can feel a little nerve-wracking. That’s why everything we do is centred around supporting nervous system health; not just for children, but for the whole family.

Before you arrive, you’ll be asked to complete a short questionnaire. This helps us understand your concerns, your child’s history, and what you’re hoping to achieve. It means your time with us is calm, focused and personal from the very start.

You’ll then be invited to our treatment centre in West Tanfield, North Yorkshire, for a free taster session and a chat. This isn’t a high-pressure appointment. It’s an opportunity to meet us, see the space, ask questions and most importantly, see if we’re the right fit for your family.

During the taster session, we’ll gently assess how your child’s nervous system is functioning and talk through what we’re seeing. We’ll explain everything clearly, in a way that feels reassuring and easy to understand. Our approach is always child-led, calm and supportive.

Nervous system regulation plays a key role in sleep, behaviour, emotional resilience, focus and overall wellbeing. When the nervous system feels safe and supported, children can thrive. That’s the foundation of everything we do at Flow Yorkshire.

If you’re looking for a welcoming, family-focused space in North Yorkshire to explore your child’s nervous system health, this is your first step.

We hope to open initial consultations soon, and open our doors in April 💫

We can’t wait to welcome you to Flow Yorkshire!

Even on a winter’s day… get outside 🤍

Fresh air, muddy boots, rosy cheeks and big breaths can do wonders for the whole family. You don’t need sunshine or long adventures; just stepping outdoors together is enough.

Getting outside in winter can:
❄️ Boost mood and energy
❄️ Support immune systems
❄️ Help regulate sleep
❄️ Calm busy minds (for little ones and grown-ups)
❄️ Create simple, meaningful moments of connection

Wrap up warm, notice the cold air on your face, listen to the sounds around you, and let your bodies move naturally.

It’s not about doing more —
it’s about being together.

Winter days count too 🤍

In a world that constantly asks for more — more effort, more productivity, more improvement — choosing enough can feel uncomfortable. Almost like you’re doing something wrong.

But enough isn’t giving up.
Enough isn’t laziness.
Enough is listening.

It’s recognising when you’ve given what you can today — not on your best day, not on an imaginary future version of you — but right now, as you are.

Stopping at enough protects your energy.
It creates space to breathe.
It allows progress to be sustainable instead of exhausting.

Growth doesn’t come from pushing endlessly past your limits. It comes from respecting them, learning them, and working with them.

So if today all you managed was “enough” — that’s not failure.
That’s awareness.
And awareness is where real flow begins.

When you choose to start a treatment journey with Flow Yorkshire, you’re choosing something bigger than a quick fix.

There’s often an expectation that results happen overnight — but real, lasting health doesn’t work like that. Whether you’re addressing long-standing symptoms, supporting your child’s development, or investing in preventative care, there is a time commitment. Healing takes consistency. It takes trust. And it takes patience.

But here’s the part that matters most: that time is an investment in the future health of your family.

Every appointment builds on the last. Every session moves you closer to resilience, balance and long-term wellbeing — not just short-term relief. When you commit to a treatment plan, you’re not just booking sessions… you’re creating stronger foundations for the years ahead.

At Flow Yorkshire, we also understand that affordability matters. Choosing care shouldn’t feel out of reach. That’s why we’re doing everything we can to keep treatment prices as accessible as possible, while maintaining the highest standards of professional care. We believe preventative and supportive health care should be sustainable; for families, not just for today, but for the long run.

If you’re considering starting your journey, know this:
It’s not just about the next appointment.
It’s about the next chapter of your family’s health.

Bookmark this for the moments you feel like you’re losing your 'flow'.

We’ve all been there; the house feels loud, the to-do list is endless, and your body feels like it’s buzzing with stress. When you're in that "high alert" state, your brain can't think its way out of it. You have to show your body it's safe.

These 10 "Quick Wins" are designed to be used anywhere; the kitchen, the car, or even the office. They work by talking directly to your nervous system.

Tell us in the comments; which of these are you going to try today?
