An anxious mind can feel like it’s working against you but it doesn’t have to control your life.

The ‘Your Anxious Mind’ blog explores why anxiety happens, how your brain is trying to protect you, and practical ways to work with your thoughts instead of against them.

Want to feel more in control of your anxiety? Read the full blog here: https://www.lifecarecounselling.com/2023/01/07/your-anxious-mind/

Or if anxiety is affecting your daily life, you can book a private counselling session with me to take the first step toward feeling calmer and supported. I offer a free 15 minute telephone call first to discuss how we can work together.

You don’t have to struggle on alone.

Because baby loss doesn’t end when the appointment does.

Because grief doesn’t follow a timeline.

When health professionals are supported with the right training and understanding, families are met with compassion, confidence, and care at every stage.

Talking openly about loss isn’t uncomfortable - it’s necessary.

And change begins with conversation.

If you’re a professional supporting families after loss - education and reflection can make a real difference.

The fully funded PROP (Professional Reflective Occupational Practice) sessions through support health professionals in Kent and surrounding areas. Please get in touch for more information.

This Children’s Mental Health Week, I wanted to shine a light on surviving siblings after baby loss.

Children often experience grief differently. It might show up as:

-Changes in behaviour

-Big emotions or withdrawal

-Anxiety, questions, or regression

-Trying to protect their parents by staying quiet

When you’re grieving yourself after baby loss, it can feel hugely overwhelming when also parenting surviving children.

Counselling can help parents:

- Understand how children express grief at different ages

-Learn how to talk about loss in age appropriate ways

-Support your mental health and wellbeing so that you can hold space for your children

-Allow for healing as a family

It’s ok not to have all of the answers but support is here for you so you can give the best possible support for your children.

If you’ve noticed you’re not feeling quite yourself as the weather has got colder, you may be struggling with winter blues.

I see many new clients during this period who are struggling with increased anxiety and low mood that is often made worse by the bad weather.

My ‘How to Treat Winter Blues’ blog also gives an insight into SAD (seasonal affective disorder) and how you can proactively change elements of your lifestyle that can help overcome how you’re feeling.

You can find the blog here: https://www.lifecarecounselling.com/2024/01/10/how-to-treat-winter-blues/

And if you need specialist support, feel free to get in touch.

Today is Brew Monday championed by to replace ‘Blue Monday’ what is argued to be one of the most depressing days of the year.

So, why not use this to start a conversation with someone over a cuppa.

Sometimes, it just takes a conversation and a chat about our feelings instead of keeping them inside that can help our mental health greatly.

If you need any support, I am here if you need me.

The exact number was 63,345 women who needed to access perinatal mental health services.

In fact, according to their Operational Performance Update 2025, NHS England had a target to help 66,000 women in England in a 12 month period which left over 2,000 women without any support at all.

With perinatal metal health issues affecting 1 in 5 expectant or new mums, it’s so important to be aware of how you feel and talk to others if you need to.

And if you need specialist support, I am always here.

This time of year is difficult for anyone who has experienced the loss of a baby.

The pressure of Christmas - to do all the ‘things’ especially with living siblings can make Christmas a hugely emotional time.

But it’s so important to remember your angel baby at Christmas time and for your living children to understand.

My blog featured on my website includes lots of tools you can apply at this time of year as well as on Christmas Day itself.

What an amazing way to raise funds for such a special charity

💜 Hayley is raising funds and awareness for Abigail’s Footsteps by providing handwritten letters from Father Christmas.

💜 Hayley said "I'm doing handwritten and highly personalised letters from Santa. I ask for any information you'd like included and then I share a draft before the top copy. I'm charging £10 per letter via a donation direct to our just giving page raising enough to donate an Abi Cooling Cot in my baby Raphael's name. I can write them to individuals or sibling groups, last date to order is 10th December.”

“Honestly couldn’t think of anything you could improve, found it so helpful in gaining advice on how best to care for our bereavement families.”

Health professionals play a key role in a bereaved parent’s journey. Midwives especially. I recently spoke at The Student Midwifery Conference organised by where I spoke to student midwives about the importance of how they support parents after the loss of a baby. And here is their feedback.

If you are a health professional that could benefit from additional support for you or your staff, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Because grief can be loud in our heads and it’s hard to switch off.

Today, give yourself permission to sit with a cup of tea, journal or go for a walk and rest your mind for a moment of quiet - even if it’s just for 5 minutes.

You don’t need to be productive today.

You are allowed to just be.

How do you create moments of quiet for yourself?

Speaking at during Baby Loss Awareness Week was a huge honour.

The first person a parent may speak to after the loss of a baby is a health professional. The words you use and the actions you take can play a vital role.

Educating health professionals to use the correct language plus having the knowledge and sensitivity can have a huge impact on a bereaved parent’s journey.

If you are a health professional or organisation that would like support for you or your staff, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
