Care isn’t always four walls and a kettle!

Our Care Professional Kelly has been on a cruise to Amsterdam with one of her clients, providing support while making some very special memories along the way.

This is what person-centred care really looks like 💙

Independence is often misunderstood as doing everything alone.

In reality, it can mean having the right support in place so life feels manageable, confident and your own. For some people, that support makes the difference between feeling stuck and getting on with life.

True independence is not about age or labels. It is about being able to live in a way that works for you.

Did you know that memories from decades ago can sometimes be easier to access than what happened this morning?

That is why reminiscence therapy can be so powerful. Long term memories are often stored differently in the brain and can remain intact even when short term memory becomes unreliable.

What many people do not realise is that reminiscing is not about testing memory at all. It is about reducing pressure. A photograph, a familiar song or a shared story can help someone feel calmer, more confident and more able to communicate, often leading to richer conversations and better emotional wellbeing in the present.

Very often, when supporting someone living with dementia, our Care Professionals in Bury naturally use reminiscence as part of their visits, through conversation, music, photos or shared routines. It is one of the many small, thoughtful ways we help clients feel more at ease and connected in the moment.

It's National Time to Talk Day - a reminder of how vital a simple conversation can be to remind us we're not alone. And where better to celebrate that than at the Church Lane Community Centre!

We post about the socials and drop-in sessions that are hosted there every week, ran by friendly and dedicated social prescribers - like Julie in the middle there, between Joanna and Michelle!

Their Social Drop Ins are every Tuesday from 1PM - 3PM. Pop in and say hello!
