There are lots of events an activities taking place during dementia action week.

There will also be lots of activities at Hope Haven in Whitehaven, so keep checking our page for more information.

The Memory and Later Life Service in West Cumbria have recently received funding from CNTW NHS Charity to host a Virtual Dementia Tour in Whitehaven on 22 May 🚐

The tour is free and aims to give carers the chance to 'walk in the shoes' of those they support through an immersive experience simulating the physical and cognitive challenges faced by people living with dementia.

The team will also be holding a number of events to mark Dementia Action Week (18-24 May) to improve the lives of people affected by dementia, whilst also fundraising to support the service's work.

Events include:

☕ 'Tea Dance' 14th May, 1pm-3.30pm
Masonic Hall, Workington

Led by qualified dance instructors, the tea dance will be a chance to reminisce and take a trip down memory lane. Tickets are £4, please call 07870367451 to book your place.

ℹ️ Information sessions across Keswick and Workington, 18-22 May. Full details in the comments section.

Donations to the team's fundraiser will provide the team with additional resources for wellbeing sessions and meaningful activities for people receiving care from the team.

We’re so excited to be part of the Everyone Here Imagine festival sessions this weekend!

🎨On Sunday 26th April, drop-in between 11am - 3.30pm for ‘Rhythms of Nicholson: A Visual Poetry Workshop’ with our artist-in-residence, Celia Burbush. Listen to locally made recordings of Nicholson’s poems, and create your own visual poems using paints, stencils, paper and more to the beats of this poet’s unmistakable spoken word.

And upstairs we’ll be hosting two film and sound
installations.

🎬 ‘Here, West’ by Dave Bewick celebrates the rugged honesty and determination of this unique landscape of West Cumbria and
the people who call it home.

🔊 And in ‘Reflections’ by Jack McNeil, experience a sound table (crafted from locally sourced olive ash and Cumbrian
slate) which transforms collective feeling into a reflective sonic environment that honours place, memory, and connection from community gatherings across Flimby, Cleator Moor, and Egremont.

More details about the festival in the post below! 👇
