🚧 Upcoming Building Works at Marine Avenue Medical Centre

We wanted to let our patients know that some improvement works will be taking place at the practice over the next few weeks.

We’re preparing for the creation of two new clinical rooms, which will help us increase capacity and continue improving patient care. As part of the preparations, you may notice small works such as guttering repairs and a skip on site while we clear space ahead of the refurbishment.

There may be some impact on access to parts of the building and car park during this period, but we’ll do everything possible to keep disruption to a minimum.

📍 Please note: On the morning of 13th November, guttering work will take place from 6:30am and may temporarily affect access to the car park for a few hours.

We’ll keep you updated as work progresses - thank you for your patience and understanding while we make these improvements for our patients.

🧠 Patient Participation Group Question:

We’re trialling an NHS-approved AI tool that helps GPs by securely typing up the clinical part of your consultation. It leaves out any general conversation. The aim is to save GPs time on admin so they can focus more on you during your appointment.

We’re taking this trial slowly to make sure we meet all GDPR and NHS governance standards, and your consent will always be requested before use.

💬 Would you feel comfortable with your GP using AI to assist with note-taking during your appointment?

Cast your vote in our anonymous poll: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScGlGQ2nmo4h3HxX###HcrI4_20PQqmEj4_-QxpfvP0Fex7aw/viewform?usp=publish-editor

(You can also share any thoughts or concerns in the comments below - this helps us understand how patients feel about new technology in general practice, and helps us to understand how we can introduce it safely and responsibly.)

🧠 Spotting the Early Signs of Dementia

It’s normal to forget things occasionally - especially when tired or stressed - but if memory loss or confusion is becoming more frequent, it’s important to speak to your GP. Dementia is not a natural part of ageing. It’s a group of symptoms linked to a decline in brain function, affecting memory, thinking, language, and behaviour.

Early signs can include:
• Difficulty remembering recent events
• Struggling with everyday tasks
• Changes in mood, personality, or social withdrawal
• Confusion about time or place
• Trouble finding words or following conversations

An early diagnosis can make a big difference, helping you access the right treatment and support.

For dementia advice and support, contact the Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Support Line on 0333 150 3456 or visit alzheimers.org.uk to find local services and resources.

🩺 The MHRA has confirmed paracetamol is safe for use during pregnancy

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has confirmed that taking paracetamol during pregnancy remains safe, and there is no evidence it causes autism in children.

Paracetamol continues to be the recommended pain relief option for pregnant women when used as directed in the patient information leaflet.

Untreated pain and fever can pose risks to an unborn baby, so it’s important to manage symptoms safely. Pregnant women should always follow NHS guidance and speak to a healthcare professional if they have any concerns about taking medication during pregnancy.

🪮 Head Lice Happen - Here’s How to Spot and Treat Them

Head lice and nits are very common, especially among school-aged children and their families. They’re not caused by dirty hair and are usually spread through head-to-head contact.

👀 Spotting them:
Head lice are tiny insects (up to 3mm long) that can make your head feel itchy. Their eggs (nits) are small, white or brown, and stick to the hair. The only way to be sure is by finding live lice - use a fine-toothed detection comb on wet, conditioned hair to check.

🪮 Getting rid of them:
You can treat head lice without seeing a GP. Try wet combing first: wash, condition, and comb from root to tip - repeating on days 1, 5, 9, and 13. If that doesn’t work, you can buy medicated lotions or sprays from your pharmacy.

There’s no need to keep your child off school or to wash everything on a hot cycle. Just treat everyone affected at the same time to stop the spread.
