Tight calves, quads, or hips after running? ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Youโ€™re not alone โ€” these common niggles often show up during marathon training or high-mileage weeks.

Iโ€™ve written a new blog post all about why runners get tight in these areas and what really helps to reduce tension and support your recovery.

If youโ€™re training for a race (or just love running), this should give you a better understanding of your body and how to stay moving comfortably.

Niggles are a normal part of training โ€” not a sign youโ€™re failing.

When you increase mileage or intensity, your body is adapting to new loads. Small aches and tightness often reflect fatigue, tissue stress, or movement changes, not damage.

The key is listening early rather than pushing through until something stops you running.
Sports massage can help:
โ€ข Reduce muscle tension
โ€ข Improve movement quality
โ€ข Support recovery between sessions
โ€ข Keep small issues from becoming bigger ones

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ Especially helpful during peak marathon training

If you're marathon training, as weekly mileage increases, muscle tightness is a normal response โ€” especially in the calves, quads, hips, and lower back.

Sports and remedial massage helps manage this tension, supports movement quality, and can reduce the risk of niggles building up over time.

Recovery isnโ€™t a luxury โ€” itโ€™s part of training.

Iโ€™ve put together a new blog post all about when runners should get a massage, how it can support your training, and why recovery is just as important as the miles you log.

If youโ€™re preparing for a marathon, this is a helpful read to make sure your body keeps up with your training.

Marathon training isnโ€™t just about mileage and pace.

What you do between runs matters just as much. As training builds, muscles adapt by getting stronger โ€” but also tighter. Supporting recovery early can help you stay consistent and comfortable as the weeks progress
Iโ€™m in marathon training myself right now, so I understand how quickly tight calves, quads, hips, and backs can creep in.
