Hi all
My charity swim is only 3 days away 🙂
The weather looks promising - fingers crossed. It is also a bank holiday and it is my birthday! So please - any of you that can sponsor me then please jump onto the link below and help support a great cause. Any amount would be amazing!
Thank you to all those who have supported me so far.
It will be a tough swim - approx 5 hours in the water cutting across some strong tides. Hopefully, all will go well.
Best wishes

Hi all
Only 1 month now until my charity swim 🏊‍♀️- a 13km endurance sea swim from the Red Sand Forts that lay 8 miles off the coast - for ASPIRE - an amazing cause, helping those suffering from spinal paralysis.
Please help with any donations to help me reach my target 🙂.
I am training hard. I have had mouth ulcers🥺, jelly stings🦐, nasty chafing😨and ran into sewage alerts💩.
But the training continues all in this good cause.
See the link for Just Giving or if you object to this page then PM me and you can donate directly 🙂
Best wishes to you all.

Hi friends, former students, colleagues 🙂

I hope you are all well - do you have that Friday feeling? I hope so as I have a request from all you kind people. I am taking on a SWIM Challenge for ASPIRE - an amazing charity that supports people who have suffered from Spinal paralysis - as Osteopaths we are fully aware how life changing this can be.
I am attempting to be the first registered swimmer to solo swim 13km from the Forts - an iconic structure out in the English Channel - back to my local beach in Whitstable.
It will be tough - strong tides, weather, marine life and the cold. But I want to do it for this incredible charity. We take our bodies for granted - and to suddenly have no control of our legs, arms and bodily function is devastating.
So please, if you can, pop onto my page and contribute - and leave me a message - it will be great to hear from you! xx

Hi all

I will be taking a short break over the summer but the Blogging Tutor will be back very soon with some Clinical Thoughts of the Week.
HOWEVER, please check out the podcasts The Tales of Osteopathy Students by Chelsea and her good friend V! 😊 They are Part Time Year 2 students at the UCO who have produced a series of podcasts about student life as an Osteopath – they are great – have a listen! Chelsea and V asked me on one of their podcasts as a guest and here is the link – but check them all out! They cover a range of topics in a fun and entertaining fashion – with some great medical stories! They will be celebrating their 1st year anniversary this coming weekend!!!

Morning all 😊
It has arrived – the next in the series of “Clinical Thought of the Week” – Prostate Screening. This is a useful review of symptoms, screening methods and treatments for prostate cancer – because we all need a REMINDER of our systemic screening process.
Please use this and my other videos as CPD. A good idea is to watch the video and then read around the subject in further depth 😊 using them as a catalyst for further learning or simply revision. Job done! Please feel free to share these with friends, colleagues or patients.

Hi all

Just a quick message. Many of you know that I have been practising as an Osteopath in Sunny Whitstable for many years. I also teach in London, Poland and Japan for various Universities & Schools. The challenges of Covid-19 meant that we devised innovative ways of teaching online. One of the methods I used was videos to try and simplify various medical conditions that we routinely consider in practice. I wanted to share one of these and invite you to like, share, comment and subscribe for more. This is my first! Enjoy :)

Everyone feels better when the SUN comes out 😊

For centuries, doctors and natural healers relied on something called Heliotherapy – using sunlight for healing – to mend wounds, treat bone diseases such as rickets or lung infections like tuberculosis. It has been shown to help alleviate chronic skin conditions including acne, eczema, and psoriasis. Catching some “rays” also triggers increased production of the “feel good” brain chemical, Serotonin. This helps promote sleep, boosts your immune system, lift your mood and helps ward off depression.

Sunlight ALSO triggers the body to make its own vitamin D, which is crucial for strong bones and preventing Osteoporosis. Osteoporosis now affects one in every three women and one in every 12 men in the UK. Described by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as “the silent epidemic” there are often no symptoms until the first fracture, by which time you may have lost a third of your bone density.

Of course - the wrong kind of exposure to the sun will increase your risk of skin cancer, but in moderation has so many benefits and can make you happier and healthier. Remember – frequent short exposures are not only safer but more beneficial than a prolonged dose of sunlight. Also, early morning sunshine has been identified as the most beneficial. So get up and take that walk like me and my beautiful daughter 😊 – it is so much MORE than “exercise”.
