International Women’s Day 2025
“Accelerate Action” is a worldwide call to acknowledge strategies, resources, and activity that positively impact women’s advancement, and to support and elevate their implementation.
I encourage you as women and supporters of women to think about how you can take action in your day to day life to bring equity to women both near and far around the world. Small and regular acts have just as much impact as big movements, they don’t have to be financially motivated, or meticulously planned.
A lot of what I do comes from a place of privilege of having been brought up in a family that did not create barriers based on my gender, being championed by the liberal men and women who went before me. I’m aware of this and intend to pay it forward. Much of what I have achieved is because I was told that I could, and given the tools to do so. I continue to let my daughters know that they too have a deserving place in any part of society around the world, they may choose to do whatever they wish and while there may be challenges, they will have me and all their ally’s supporting them indefinitely.
I use my place of work to empower women in their autonomy and understanding their individuality, to create generational change around birth knowledge and experience in the hope that this too filters down through their families and becomes a ripple effect.
I support women owned businesses, networking and championing them. I support my friends in their endeavours. I take time to explore the experiences of other women and their paths of life.
I encourage my daughters to participate in all kinds of activities, I support Girl Guiding (having been a Queens guide myself!), I put an emphasis on their education and skills, and I example that “blue jobs” and “pink jobs” are not a thing in our home and that all people can do all things.
I am proud of the woman I am, and the women I know.
I am grateful for those that went before me and I hopeful that those that come after me will feel the effects of what we do now.
