I've just been reading some literature and this resonates with me massively. I was trained in a way to read a person's body language and how they react to the treatment and not necessarily using forceful pressure to get good results. We were always told" no pain no gain" for some this method works as that's what they are used to from previous therapist and still want, but the majority of people for me it really is about how the muscles react to my touch and not necessarily going in hammer and tongs, definitely never at the start of treatment either. Some people I've spoken to when they find out my job will say " oh no, I've had some one give me a sports massge in the past and it hurt so bad I was in agony for days and I'll never have one again ", this is definitely not the outcome you want.
