What’s happening to the scales after Christmas & Boxing Day?
If the scale has gone up, don’t panic — it’s usually NOT body fat.
1️⃣ Water retention
• Salty foods and alcohol make your body hold onto water
• Alcohol dehydrates you, so your body stores fluid to protect itself
➡️ This alone can push the scale up quickly
2️⃣ Food weight
• Bigger meals + more frequent eating = more food still sitting in your digestive system
• That weight hasn’t turned into fat
3️⃣ Bloating & inflammation
• Rich foods, sugar, and alcohol can cause bloating
• You feel heavier and tighter, even if fat hasn’t changed
What it doesn’t mean ❌
• You haven’t undone weeks of progress
• You didn’t gain fat overnight
• The scale right now isn’t a true reflection
What helps it settle back down ✅
• Drink plenty of water
• Get back to normal meals
• Gentle movement like walking
• Don’t punish yourself or restrict hard
⏳ Give it 3–5 days and the scale usually drops as your body rebalances.
