Fire Safety in Practice – or Not Quite!

While delivering a Fire Safety course today, I couldn’t help but notice this — a clearly marked fire exit completely blocked by stacked chairs and a ladder.

It’s a reminder that fire safety isn’t just about ticking boxes or attending training sessions — it’s about applying those lessons every single day. A blocked exit could cost valuable seconds in an emergency.

Regular checks, clear escape routes, and a good safety culture make all the difference.
Sometimes the biggest risks aren’t hidden — they’re right in front of us.

Spent the day with the great team at Trelleborg Group Marine Systems Ltd,(Hawarden, Deeside) running AED training sessions as part of their International Safety Day.

We tied the sessions in with the International Restart a Heart campaign, giving everyone the confidence to use an AED and perform CPR — skills that genuinely save lives.

At one point, I could have sworn the training mannequins had moved between sessions… proof, perhaps, that the AED training really does work!

HMO Operators Prosecuted Over Fire Safety Failings

A recent case revealed that two HMO operators pleaded guilty to nine offences of fire safety non-compliance and licensing breaches.  Such legal action underscores just how seriously fire safety law is enforced — especially in shared housing.
