Another great day delivering training, this time with the CleanEvent Services team at St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton.

What always stands out to me is not just the training itself, it is the relationships that come with it.

Yes, businesses invest in training because they need to meet compliance, protect their people, and do things the right way. But when clients repeatedly come back, you know it is more than just a service.

It is trust
It is consistency
It is knowing they are getting real value

For me, that is what makes this job genuinely rewarding.

Walking into a room and seeing familiar faces, or hearing “I have had you before on a course” means everything. It tells me the delivery sticks, the message lands, and people actually take something away from it.

At the same time, meeting new members of a team, understanding how their business operates, and helping improve safety and awareness keeps every course fresh.

Today was exactly that. A brilliant group, fully engaged, and a great example of a company that clearly values its people and their safety.

Massive thanks to the Clean Events team for having me back, always a pleasure.

Another great few days delivering IOSH Managing Safely at the JD Sports Distribution Centre in Rochdale.

This photo was taken while the group were completing their final assessment after working through the course together. Always good to see managers and supervisors fully engaged and applying what they’ve learned about hazards, risk assessment and improving safety in the workplace.

Today’s Fire Safety course came with a bit of unintended irony…

The fire exit in the training room was completely blocked with stacked chairs, ladders and general clutter — and on top of that, there was no illuminated fire exit sign above the door, to be sorted.
A proper escape route needs to be clear, accessible and clearly marked at all times.

Once it was pointed out, the business removed the clutter immediately
Most blocked exits aren’t deliberate , it’s just things slowly getting put in “temporary” spots until someone steps back and sees the bigger risk.

This is exactly why fire safety training — and proper Fire Risk Assessments — are so important.
A few small changes can make a massive difference in a real emergency.

8 years on… and what a journey it’s been.

OHSS – Occupational Health & Safety Solutions has gone from strength to strength, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve built. None of it happens without the trust of our returning clients, so a huge thank you to every single business that continues to put their confidence in us year after year.

And of course… the biggest thank you goes to my beautiful, supportive wife, Lisa Claydon. She’s the one who keeps me (and the business!) on track. Without her, I wouldn’t be anywhere near as successful as I’ve been fortunate enough to be over these last 8 years.

3-Day First Aid at Work – Widnes

Just finished a great 3-day First Aid at Work course in Widnes. Cracking group, full effort, plenty of laughs.

The feedback’s been spot on — “excellent course”, “fantastic teacher”, “delivered with humour and just the right amount of practical”. Comments like that genuinely keep me pushing to deliver no-nonsense, real-world training that sticks.

This really put a smile on my face today.

I have been sat writing responses to my Google Business reviews and reflecting on the past seven years in business. I am not only over the moon with the Google reviews, but also the kind feedback written on the feedback forms after every course. It means a lot more than people realise.

132 Google reviews. 130 five stars. A perfect 5.0 rating.
Not bad for a small family run business where the trainer (me) mixes real experience with a bit of humour to keep people engaged while learning how to stay safe.

Even the two four star reviews were positive. You can’t please everyone, but that record will do nicely.

Staying focused and motivated can be tough at times, and I am the first to admit that. But I never want to let a client or a learner down. Touch wood, I haven’t yet.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to leave a review. Your words keep me motivated, keep the energy up and push me to keep raising standards.

While delivering a Fire Safety course today, I couldn’t help but notice this — a clearly marked fire exit completely blocked by stacked chairs and a ladder.

It’s a reminder that fire safety isn’t just about ticking boxes or attending training sessions — it’s about applying those lessons every single day. A blocked exit could cost valuable seconds in an emergency.

Regular checks, clear escape routes, and a good safety culture make all the difference.
Sometimes the biggest risks aren’t hidden — they’re right in front of us.
