• 13 years experience in treating musicians including Chetham's School of Music & The Royal Northern College of Music
• Member of BASRaT
• Qualified tutor of The FAs sports first aid course
• Previous teaching experience having delivered courses on injury prevention and adolescent injuries to Manchester FA coaches
• Acupuncture qualified with further training in acupuncture for i) neck and back pain ii) acupuncture in pregnancy
• Diploma in pregnancy massage
• ACPOHE certificate in Office Ergonomics & Workstation Assessments

It’s a gorgeous bank holiday ☀️ which can only mean one thing….gardening induced pain
REMEMBER:

🌺 TAKE A BREAK break the gardening up into 30-40 minute sessions

🌼 STRETCH stand up and stretch regularly to avoid muscle stiffness

🌸 ALTERNATE JOBS mix up jobs lower down like weeding with jobs where you’re standing up or moving around and jobs that involve a lot of gripping so that you are changing your position and avoiding repetitive movements

🌳MAINTAIN GOOD POSTURE remember to squat down rather than bend over ⬇️

I see this all too frequently!
It hurts when you move so you don’t move for fear of making it worse, this makes the joints and muscles stiffen up and lose strength. It just causes a viscous circle. We need to break that cycle. Depending on the injury will depend on the management but it CAN be broken.

Is your wallet causing your back pain?

I had someone in last week with right glute pain and pain in the back of the right thigh. They’d been sitting on their wallet on a busy commute into work and all day at the office inadvertently causing a postural abnormality. Advised they ditch the wallet and lo and behold problem solved 🙌🏼

This is what a rotator cuff tear looks like. This video shows a full rupture which would require surgical intervention but a grade 1 or 2 tear can be treated with therapy and rehab alone

How flexible are you?

If you don’t have the range of the top diagram then you could be showing the signs of early onset osteoarthritis. Hallux rigidus usually develops in adults between the ages of 30 and 60.
