📸 Capturing the Moment.

We’ve been using a disposable camera to record meaningful moments within our shared home community. Residents, loved ones and our teams were encouraged to take part, shaping an authentic narrative of daily life.

As with all our work, the idea was grounded in research. The nostalgic, sensory experience of winding the film, looking through the viewfinder and pressing the shutter prompts conversation, memory and emotional connection.

This project is a reminder that progress isn’t always digital. Sometimes the most effective approaches are those that slow us down, create presence and invite participation.

The photos will feature on this year’s Christmas card and be proudly displayed in our home; a clear example of how simple, evidence-informed ideas can help us deliver our purpose.

The joy of live entertainment! 🌟🎶

Performances such as these have such a positive effect on all of us. They not only provide an enjoyable and engaging experience but also lift spirits, encourage mental stimulation and are a great opportunity for us to socialise with friends old and new.

Music is also a brilliant way of strengthening our community with joy and laughter. Seeing the smiles and hearing the laughter always makes it worthwhile. 🌟

Care Home residents across Wigan came together to celebrate.🎄

We had an amazing time with residents from homes across the borough for Stubshaw's Christmas Party.

There was live music, festive sing-alongs, a drink or two and lots of chat with new faces.

We loved every minute and so did our team. Thanks so much to everyone involved for creating such a fantastic event. 🎅

Contributing to the Christmas Wish Tree at the Dementia Cafe. ✨

Some of us wrote to family. Some wrote about stories of Christmases gone by and others about what Christmas means to them.

Dementia can make it harder to express feelings in everyday conversation. A structured activity like a wish tree gives people a framework. The prompt, a purpose and a moment to reflect.

A huge thank you to the Salvation Army for welcoming us in to spend meaningful time with each other.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Shawcross.🎄

The Christmas trees are up and our home is looking wonderfully festive.

We've had a lovely time making Christmas cards with some of the children in our families. It's always a joy when we have little hands helping with crafts and sharing stories across generations.

Let the countdown begin. ✨

A lovely morning out at the Salvation Army for a community lunch. 🍽

Wellbeing Lead Andrea joined us, along with residents from our neighbours at New Springfield Care Home.

There's something special about watching people meet for the first time and leave as friends. That happened a few times today. 🥰

We had a brilliant movie afternoon, choosing our favourite Carry On films to watch while enjoying a selection snacks and hot chocolates.🍿

There's nothing quite like classic British comedy to get everyone laughing. This is what wellbeing looks like here at Shawcross, making sure there's lots of laughter, choice and a something to look forward to.

Extra Mile Award Winner - Congratulations Joanne! ⭐

A huge congratulations to our wonderful Joanne who is the winner of this month's Extra Mile Award.

She's a shining light here at Shawcross and a wonderful example to our new team members, guiding them through their inductions so brilliantly. She goes above and beyond to provide compassionate care for all of our residents and is always there to lend a hand to team members too.

We're so proud to have her on the team and we're excited to see what's next for her.

A Brilliant Afternoon with Wild Bill and his Variety Show! 🥰

The lounge was packed and we loved learning to line dance.

The whole home got involved with team members having a little dance too. Our Wellbeing Programme provides positive and light-hearted shared experiences each day here at Shawcross and we're so grateful to have such a fantastic group of people to share these moments with.
