🌀 Foam Rollers… what are they and do they actually work? 🌀
If you’ve ever had a massage with me, you’ve probably heard me mention a foam roller at some point 😅
But what actually is it… and why do I recommend it?
✨ What is a foam roller?
A foam roller is basically a firm cylinder (usually foam or textured plastic) that you use on the floor to gently roll out tight muscles. Think of it like a little DIY massage tool you can use at home.
💡 How does it work?
Foam rolling works by applying pressure to tight areas in the muscles and fascia (the connective tissue around your muscles).
This can help to release tension, improve circulation, and encourage your muscles to relax and lengthen.
🌿 Benefits of foam rolling Using a foam roller regularly can help:
✅ Reduce muscle tightness
✅ Improve flexibility and mobility
✅ Increase blood flow and recovery
✅ Help ease aches after exercise
✅ Reduce stiffness from sitting/desk work
✅ Support injury prevention
✅ Improve your overall movement (especially hips, legs and back!)
🏋️♀️ Is it stretching?
It’s not exactly stretching, but it helps your muscles relax so stretching becomes easier and more effective afterwards.
⏰ How often should you foam roll? You don’t need to overdo it!
✔️ 2–4 times per week is great for most people
✔️ If you train a lot or feel tight, you can do it daily
✔️ Even 5 minutes makes a difference!
💛 My tip:
Foam roll BEFORE stretching, or after exercise, and focus on slow controlled movements (don’t rush it!). If you find a tender spot, pause and breathe.
⚠️ Foam rolling shouldn’t feel like unbearable pain… a little discomfort is normal, but it should always be manageable.
If you’re not sure what areas you should be rolling (or you want me to show you properly), just ask me next time you’re in 😊🙌
Happy rolling! 🌀💛
