My Hairy History!
My name is Lisa Gilbey and I am a registered full member & former Governor of 7 years for the prestigious Institute of Trichologists. I began in the world of hair at 14 as a Saturday girl in the Steiner Hair & Beauty salon, Peterborough and then fulfilled my apprenticeship with Michael John Hair Artwork team and worked in their Queensgate branch as a junior stylist. I worked in a few great salons in Wellingborough gaining experience with the public plus lots of chin wagging and heads passing through my fingertips (my favorite long standing salon being the fabulous girls at the Headquarters, Gold Street in Wellingborough). I then decided to change my direction from the scissors to the medical books. At the age of 25 I wanted to further my career under the medical and scientific aspect of hair as I saw an array of problems that people needed answers for that they just weren’t getting the help for! In 2005 I started studying with the Institute of Trichologists (the longest established respected Trichology organisation recognised worldwide). I passed my gruelling exams in 2007, gained full membership after another 2 years of mentoring, elected a Governor and also employed by the Institute as their public liaison advisor assisting with media work and public enquiries. Consulting as a Trichologist I have seen a multitude of hair and scalp disorders between my own clinic and also from when I was head hunted and worked at a top Harley Street clinic in London and Birmingham. I enjoy my position as a Trichologist, not only as I am passionate about helping people diagnose and treat their hair and scalp concerns, but also for the fact that I have the ability to reduce the stress and anxiety of what it does psychologically to them. It is a very satisfying element of my job when people leave with a smile on their face, even in the most difficult situations.
