🌍 World Diabetes Day | November 14
Diabetes doesn’t just affect blood sugar, it can also impact your hands.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is up to twice as common in people with diabetes. High blood sugar can lead to changes in tendons and nerves, making them more vulnerable to compression. Symptoms include:
✔ Tingling or numbness in fingers
✔ Wrist pain
✔ Weak grip

Early diagnosis matters. If you have diabetes and notice these signs, speak to a hand specialist. Managing blood sugar and timely treatment can prevent long-term complications.

🤚 Tendinitis: Overuse can result in aching, swelling, and tenderness in the tendons, with pain often intensifying at night.

Noticed a lump on your wrist or hand? You might be experiencing a wrist ganglion.

These fluid-filled sacs can develop near joints or tendons and are most commonly seen on the wrist. While they can be quite concerning, they are usually harmless and often painless. Here’s what you should know:

👉 Causes - Wrist ganglions can form from irritation or injury to the wrist joint or tendon.
👉 Symptoms - You may notice a lump, which can vary in size, and occasional discomfort, especially with certain movements.
👉 Treatment Options - Many ganglions go away on their own. If necessary, treatment may include aspiration (removing the fluid) or, in some cases, surgery.
👉 Prevention - To reduce your risk, maintain wrist strength and flexibility with stretching and strengthening exercises!

If you have concerns about a lump on your wrist or persistent pain, it’s wise to consult with a healthcare professional to explore your options.

Take care of your wrists, and don’t hesitate to reach out for more information or guidance

🎆✨ Happy Diwali from Manchester Hand Surgeons. This Festival of Lights, we celebrate the triumph of light over darkness, health over illness, and hope over despair.

🪔 Health Tip for Diwali:
If you're preparing festive meals or lighting diyas, remember to take regular breaks and stretch your hands and wrists. Repetitive movements and prolonged gripping can lead to strain or flare-ups of hand conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome or arthritis.
