Struggling with hand pain during peri‑menopause or menopause? It might be Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
Hormonal changes can cause fluid to build around the wrist, putting pressure on the nerves — leading to classic CTS symptoms:
🤚 Weak grip or difficulty with fine movements
🤚 Tingling or numbness in the thumb and fingers
🤚 Night‑time pain in the hand, wrist or forearm
🤚 Fingers feeling swollen or stiff
What can help:
✨ Avoid sleeping on the affected side
✨ Elevate your hand/wrist on a pillow
✨ Gentle exercises to maintain movement
✨ Alternate warm water & wrapped ice for 5–10 mins

If you think you may have carpal tunnel, speak to your GP or physiotherapist.
You can also be referred to Manchester Hand Surgeons for private diagnosis and treatment — often within just a few weeks.

✨ You don’t have to live with hand pain. Help is available.

🎄🍽️ Did you know your traditional Christmas dinner is secretly great for hand health?
All those festive favourites come packed with nutrients that support joints, tendons, muscles and nerves — perfect for keeping hands moving comfortably through winter!
🍗 Turkey
High in lean protein to support muscle strength and tendon repair — essential for grip, lifting and everyday hand function. And if you're vegan or vegetarian, there are lots of tasty protein-rich options.
🥦 Brussels sprouts & broccoli
Rich in vitamins C and K, which help support collagen production and joint stability. A big win for people with arthritis or stiffness.
🥕 Roasted carrots & root veg
Loaded with antioxidants that help reduce inflammation and support overall joint health.
🥔 Potatoes
Full of potassium, which supports muscle function and helps prevent painful cramping.
🥜 Nuts in festive stuffing or desserts
Provide healthy fats and magnesium to support nerve health — especially helpful for those with carpal tunnel symptoms.
🫗 And don’t forget:
Hydration matters as much as the food! Have a glass of water between festive drinks to keep joints happy.

Winter sports are fun — hand injuries are not! ⛸️❄️ Whether you’re ice skating at Manchester Christmas Markets or heading to a local rink, indoor skiing or snowboarding centre, winter activities can put extra stress on your hands and wrists. A few simple precautions can help keep you safe:
🧤 Wear gloves with grip
They help protect against cuts, abrasions, and the cold (which makes joints stiffer and more injury‑prone).
⛸️ Warm up your hands before you skate
Cold muscles are tight muscles — gentle wrist circles and finger stretches go a long way.
🤝 Avoid putting your hands out to break a fall
Instinctive, but risky. Try to tuck your arms in and roll safely if you lose balance.
🧊 Be mindful of uneven ice or snow
Small ridges can cause sudden slips leading to sprains or fractures.
💪 Strengthen your wrists and forearms
Even a little extra strength can help protect you during unexpected falls.

And if you do experience pain, swelling, or difficulty moving your hand after a fall — don’t ignore it. Early assessment leads to better outcomes.

Stay safe, stay warm, and enjoy the festive fun! ❄️✨
