The Fertility Formula

As the name suggests, TCM was developed in China thousands of years ago and has evolved to be the medical practice that is used today. The Chinese theory of health diagnosis is very different to a Western approach and is founded on the principles of balancing Yin and Yang, and establishing a smooth flow of Qi and blood around the body and organs. Illness occurs when there is an imbalance of Yin and Yang and a stagnation of Qi and/ blood. Many factors can contribute to this imbalance, including stress and emotions. TCM combines the emotional and physical elements of an illness and seeks to treat both. I have found over many years of practice in my clinic, that almost every patient I see has some degree of emotional factor involved in their health. TCM is excellent at helping to resolve these emotional symptoms. There is a beautiful poetry behind the theory of TCM but I love it most because it looks at all aspects of the patient’s health, physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual. Hello! I thought I’d take the chance to say hello and re-introduce myself to those who have joined this page over the last year 👋

I’m Gabby and I’ve been working as a Fertility TCM Acupuncturist for quite a long time now! (It’s been 17 years since I set up my clinic). So here are some things that you might not know!

1) I started my adventure in alternative therapies when I was just pregnant with my son. I’d had 3 miscarriages so I had little hope, but my reflexology training every week kept me going physically and emotionally. And Alfie even came to my final few study sessions and the amazing .wayte looked after him.
2) This is what led me to specialise in fertility treatments
3) I now have two gorgeous crazy kids (15&16) and in lockdown the treatment room turned into a chaotic classroom!
4) If I’m not at work, you can find me either in the gym (I’m a CrossFit ju**ie)...
5) Or at netball, where I’m the oldest one on my team by about 25 years!
6) My husband James is my biggest supporter, but always complains I can’t be bothered to give him any acupuncture
7) I have a very lazy whippet, Skye. She’s so lazy she barely even opens an eye when the door rings for a patient arriving.
8) I’ve recently set up a YouTube channel, talking all things Fertility & TCM. I’m definitely on a steep learning curve!

If you’re a Type-A woman doing IVF… this might be a little uncomfortable to hear.

You do not need to be the project manager of your fertility.

So many women I see are:

• Booking every appointment
• Organising every medication
• Tracking every instruction
• Researching every question

And their partner is standing there thinking, “Tell me what to do.”

Delegating communication, even something as simple as asking your partner to manage the clinic emails or medication calendar can dramatically reduce your mental load.

It also allows your partner to feel useful, involved and responsible.

IVF is not a solo performance.
It’s a partnership.

Imagine dreading your period every single month.
