Our liver and digestive tract is part of the detoxification system which eliminate toxins. Every 6 months or once a year, it’s good to clean our body system to make it more efficient.

Below are a few suggestions:

Remove foods containing high sugars from your diet such as cakes, sweets, fizzy or fruit drinks etc.
Drink freshly made green juice 20mins before your breakfast. You can use handful of kale, or spinach, whole cucumber, small green apple, a few stalks celery and a bit of lime. Check Jay Kordich () for more juice recipe.
Eat raw BEFORE cooked foods - eating sour flavoured foods such as sauerkraut, pickles, kimchee before your lunch or dinner will help your digestion and liver function
Green foods are ideal for the liver health so it is important to bring these into your diet both steamed and raw, get plenty broad beans, runner beans, peas, courgette, cucumber, lettuce, spinach etc.
Please, make ensure that your body and mind has enough rest during a detox programme. I recommend gentle exercise, body brushing to stimulate the lymphatic system and most importantly early nights.

CATCHING THE ZZZZS…
A consistent bedtime routine can help you to fall asleep by preparing your body and mind to unwind at certain time. Ideally avoid anything technical or analytical two hours before bed as it will stimulate your left brain function and impact on your sleep.

Exposing yourself to bright screens on TV, tablet or phone can confuse your brain into thinking it is still daytime. Getting TrueDark glasses to block the artificial light emitted by LEDs or electronics is a good solution and reading a book or magazine instead might be another option. Make sure your bedroom is as dark as possible and a little cooler at night, ideally around 18.5’C.

It’s good to remember that your sleep cycle can’t start until digestion is over therefore eat your last meal at least two hours before bedtime. Avoid caffeine after 2pm otherwise it stays in your blood stream for eight hours and makes it more difficult to fall asleep. Having alcoholic beverages with your lunch or dinner is ok, but not late in the evenings as it may wake you more in the middle of the night and disrupt your REM sleep.

Before bedtime listen to some soft music, have a cup of whole flower chamomile tea or apply magnesium spray directly to your tense muscles to prevent cramps and have a much better quality sleep.

Health determines our quality of life and how we get to experience it. So what is actually optimal health and what does it really mean to us?

Optimal health is an act of taking care of our physical and mental well-being and properly understanding physical, chemical and emotional stressors that affect our lives.

Physical stress in our body can be created by lack of exercise, sports injuries, car accidents, poor posture from sitting down most of the day, driving or using technology. All of these can put pressure on our ligaments, tendons, muscles, joints and organ system, generating spinal stress and effecting optimal body functions. Every part of our physical body is controlled by nervous system – brain, spinal cord and nerves that branch off from the spinal cord and extend to all parts of the body. Therefore, it’s very important to keep our spine in proper alignment, look after muscles health and maintain flexibility so everything functions at its highest level.

Chemical stress is often caused by pollutants in our food, air and water, substances such as alcohol, ni****ne, food additives which can have significant impact on our digestive, hormonal and immune system. Organic nutritious diet, clean water, vitamin and mineral supplementation, elimination of processed food and stimulants take a crucial part in our optimal health strategy.

Emotional stress has an impact on our mind and body and can be easily linked to our stressful job and lifestyle, hectic schedules, unhealthy relationships, major life traumas such as death in the family, divorce, disease or major move. Finding natural methods to reduce stress is a key point to maintaining it. Self-care activities such as chiropractic care, massage, deep breathing exercises, meditation, BrainTap sessions can help us to achieve inner peace, confidence, positivity and most importantly put us in the right frame of mind.

It’s always good to remember that the journey to optimal health is all about finding yourself what works best for you, setting the goals and taking good care of your body, mind and emotions.

Creating balance in our lives to have time to do the things that make us feel happy, taking responsibility for our actions, understanding causes and consequences of our behaviour, maintaining harmony of mental and physical health and cultivating proactive approach to reach our goals. It’s all about realising that you are unique and discovering your real needs to find methods, techniques or procedures that best works for you.

Living a worry-free life is all about taking control of our thoughts and emotions, however letting go of things that we can’t control is often easily said than done! We may have the best intention to stop worry about our health, relative’s well-being, job security, finances or our relationship with other people but often we get caught up in the inner chatter cycle. So is there any effective way to retrain our brain to get into relax state and shift our mindset?

Excessive worry can lead us to anxiety as a result of constant chatter between the numbers of different brain regions. This occurs between the amygdala located deep inside the brain which processes our emotional responses and the frontal lobe which is responsible for the cognitive skills.

Dr. Patrick Porter ()designed an innovative technology - BrainTap App and created “Worry Free Me” series to particularly address the brain's neuroplasticity to reduce negative mind chatter and balance wave activity to promote relaxation, so your brain focus on abundance rather than lack, think about solution instead of the problem and create more positive thoughts. Balance your life

Time some time and ask yourself following questions: How do you maintain balance between professional and personal life? Are you constantly pushing yourself to achieve your goals? Do you create healthy boundaries with family responsibilities? Are you taking time for yourself? Do you sleep well, eat healthy and exercise regularly? How do you challenge yourself intellectually? How is your relationship with other people?

Be honest with yourself and recognise which areas of your life need more attention. Make a list, set the goals and write the action steps to achieve it e.g.

Goal: spending more quality time with family and friends
Action steps: organise home schedule, manage distractions such as social media, phone, TV, find common interests and improve interaction with family and friends.
It will take some effort to overcome your old habits and create new ones therefore be kind to yourself! Find someone who you can share your progress, get support and celebrate the achievements.

5 proven ways to achieve happiness:

Meditation reduces stress, brings relaxation and also can make you more joyful person. According to Lazar's studies meditation can shrink the portion of your brain called amygdala which controls fearfulness and anxiety and thicken the areas responsible for joy and pleasure.

Fulfilled life is all about human connections, your parents, loved ones, friends, neighbours. Spend more time with them, create great memories and let them know how you feel.

Exercise positively impacts serotonin levels in your brain, boosts your mood and improves general well-being. 10mins daily intensive aerobic exercises, running or biking are the most likely to increase your endorphins, reduce stress and make you feel happy.

Good quality sleep helps body recovery and repair, enhances positive emotions and productivity. Sleeping less than 7 hours per night can make you more irritable, short-tempered, and vulnerable to stress.

Increase happiness and satisfaction with your gratitude. Write 3 good things that happened each day. This practice will help you to be more appreciative of what has gone right, focusing on the positive and making you happier.

Happiness is a state of satisfaction, joy and well-being, a sense of contentment in living your life and being grateful for what you have. But how do you lift your mood, eliminate worries and see positive side of the coin?

Give your body and mind a good rest. Take some time to spend outdoors and focus what is really important for you, perhaps going for walk or cycle will help you to clear your mind or reading a good book might be an easy way to unwind.

Eat and sleep well. Eating nutritious food, drinking more water and catching up on sleep is a key to achieve better health and wellbeing. Notice which healthy actions, lifts your mood and repeat more often.

Breathe and meditate. Stop and take a few minutes just to focus on your breathing, try guided meditation, BrainTap or calming music, and aim daily to give yourself a bit of head space to clear your mind.

Be grateful and stay positive. Do something that bring you joy, make you feel good or shift your mood, focus on the positive aspect of each situation, express gratitude for what you have e.g. good health, loving family, supportive community, fulfilling job, exciting hobby.

The secret of being calm

Learning to manage your emotions effectively and understand how they can influence your behaviours and thoughts is one of the biggest secret behind being calm.

Take a few minutes each day to identify and write down the stressors you face. It might be a long line at the grocery shop, disagreement with a colleague, unexpected bill or anything else that gets you frustrated or upset.

Think how you react to the stressors or activities that put you under the pressure throughout the day and what was your response - did you get angry, anxious or bored?

Now reflect and write down if there was a better way to manage your emotions and handle each situation in more positive way, e.g.

Woke up late - feeling frustrated and stressed - going to bed earlier can be a great solution to prevent the stressor;

Heavy traffic - make me feel angry - focusing on deep breathes and progressive muscle relaxation technique can be healthier response to manage the stress;

Work meeting – get bored and frustrated – asking questions and seeing the situation differently might be a good way to manage your response to new changes.

Doing this exercise daily for an entire week will provide you right tools to manage your emotions, reduce stress level and harmful effects of the fight or flight response, most importantly it will help improve your health and make you feel calm!
