✏️ Back to school - adaptive footwear

👇 check out the fledglings shop for splint friendly shoes and socks or get in touch with Contact if your child needs shoes in 2 different sizes to accommodate a splint

If your disabled child struggles to find shoes that suit them, give this stylish range of adaptive footwear a try — they’re all easy to put on and built to last 👉 bit.ly/AdaptiveFootwear

The Adventure fly-knit trainers in this photo have a sensory-friendly and shock-absorbing memory foam insole that can be removed to make space for orthotics, braces, wider feet or swelling.

But there are also low tops, mid tops, high tops, cosy boots and wellies in several colours — as well as back-to-school shoes and seamless sensory socks for maximum comfort!

New arrivals this week include the lightweight Quest trainers featuring a deep side zip, wide-expand upper and adjustable elastic toggle for much easier access.

💪 Working hard - Glutes activation

Here we are working on the glutes muscles (in the buttocks) and core muscles which are important for walking and stability in standing. It may look like floating but I’m sure our patient will testify that it is in fact very hard work!! Well done 👊

🌟Splint friendly shoes🌟

This is something I am asked about a lot…where can I get shoes or socks that work with my child’s splints? Contact have an online shop with lots of useful products including these adapted shoes which are perfect for AFO’s.

They also may be able to help children with unilateral cerebral palsy (affecting one side of the body) who need different size shoes for each foot.

If your disabled child struggles to find shoes that suit them, give this stylish range of adaptive footwear a try — they’re all easy to put on and built to last 👉 bit.ly/AdaptiveFootwear

Happy birthday APCP 🎉

Today is APCP’s 50th Anniversary!

As part of APCP’s 50th birthday celebration, we’d like to share with you our new Early Years Movement Hub from our Starting2Move project

Each day, for 50 days, we’ll be posting a piece of the Early Years Movement Hub.

In each of our 50 posts we’ll be writing a specific ‘call to action’ to help us positively shape the foundations for the platform that we have provided.

Our first…call to action…please share http://bit.ly/3IoGnOt

The Early Years Movement Hub has been created from the Starting2Move project and was funded by The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy following a successful professional network bid.

We are extremely grateful for anyone who has supported this project. Hannah Littler-Smith is the illustrator who brought our messages to life, with initial contributions from the Newcastle Hospitals Charity's Don't Delay the Play project.

We hope this virtual space will provide the foundations for bringing together credible information to support movement for all babies, children and young people.

Although the platform is currently focused on the early years, in line with our funding, we have already commenced work behind the scenes to expand this virtual space to include and improve information for all of the paediatric population that we serve.

We know there is a lot of work to be done to improve the information we share, and we have a long list of ideas on how we can do that. However, it’s really important to hear your opinions of how you think we can improve. Help us in our efforts to move towards a fairer future for all.

Happy Birthday APCP.
