At The Waste Group site in Wareham, Dorset, Mo took part in a hands-on session led by Simon.

From fire blankets to extinguishers, he didn’t just learn the theory, he showed what it means to act with confidence inside (and outside) the classroom.

Fire safety isn’t just a tick-box exercise. It’s about real people, in real workplaces, making sure they’re ready to respond when it counts.

Mo’s commitment reflects what we see across the sector: frontline teams who take responsibility seriously and show up for each other.

Roofers, painters, electricians all helping each other during our exam and sharing good ideas across different occupations.

"There were times I just let them talk between themselves..." said our MD Simon.

We think learning is made easier when done through group interactions.

Our method is to make sure everyone has a chance to think through the topic and contribute.

Three million voices have spoken, and the government has stepped back.

This week’s Ouch Insights looks at the digital ID plans that sparked nationwide debate, why the rollout has been paused, and what employers should prepare for next.

From rising compliance demands to the long‑term shift toward fully digital right‑to‑work checks, the landscape is still changing. The petition may have slowed things down, but it hasn’t stopped the direction of travel.

If your organisation relies on contractors, short‑term labour or high‑turnover roles, now is the time to stay informed and plan ahead.

Rain all week. And we’ll still walk.
Not because it’s easy. But because it’s ours.

We walk to stay consistent. To support the people (and dogs) who count on us. To remind ourselves that we can show up, even when the weather says don’t bother.

It’s not about pushing through discomfort for the sake of it. It’s about choosing routine, connection, and care especially when conditions aren’t ideal.

That’s what leadership looks like. That’s what wellbeing feels like.
And that’s why we’ll be out there. Hoods up. Feet moving. Proud at the end.

Every day at noon, they head out for a midday mile by the river Stour. Phones off, coats on and dogs ready for their walk. It is a chance to chat, laugh, meet new people and clear their heads.

It is not just a walk. It is a way to support mental health, build friendships and feel better one step at a time.

If you would like to start your own midday mile, we are always happy to help.

Too many women in the UK are still being given PPE that doesn’t fit. The latest GMB survey highlights how common the issue is, with many reporting discomfort, reduced mobility and even feeling unsafe at work.

Good PPE should protect the person wearing it. When it doesn’t fit, it can’t do its job. That’s why it’s so important for employers to check that their equipment works for everyone, not just the default sizes and shapes.

At Ouch Learning and Development, we support organisations in creating safer, more inclusive workplaces. If you’d like guidance on reviewing your PPE or improving your health and safety practices, we’re always here to help.

Who woke up with snow this morning?

Snow has arrived across parts of the UK, with Manchester waking up white, just ask our northern operations manager, Max Cassin, who spotted the Ouch van covered in frost.

Areas like Aberdeen, Aviemore, and parts of Yorkshire also saw icy starts.

If you're heading out today, here are a few quick safety reminders:

🚅 Check travel updates before setting off
🧣 Wear warm, visible gear if working outdoors
🥶 Review cold weather protocols with your team
🚶‍➡️ Grit walkways to prevent slips

At Ouch, we help organisations stay safe and compliant—whatever the weather. If you're reviewing your winter safety plans or training needs, we’re here to support.

It’s been a busy week for Ouch behind the scenes... 🥪

To keep the energy high, we treated the team to festive sandwiches and sweet treats from Mark Bennet’s – because great work deserves great food.

We make sure every detail is right for you.

And that takes focus, teamwork, and sometimes… a little pastry motivation.

How are you keeping your team energised this December? 🎄
