‘Tis the season to be merry!’

The struggle for problem drinkers during the Christmas season is perhaps more pronounced than at any other time of the year. Everywhere we turn there seems to be the opportunity for ‘enjoying’ a tipple or two or three or more ! From the works Christmas party, the family get together or an afternoons trip to a Christmas market, we can partake in a readily available glass of mulled wine to a flute of champagne and everything and anything else in between, including alcohol laden Christmas cakes, chocolates, fruits and even marshmallows ( as I discovered last year ! ) It’s a landscape of alcoholic permission veiled under the mantra of, “ Oh go on it’s Christmas!”

But If you’re battling with alcohol issues, this seasonal societal permissiveness, which it has to be said is completely at odds with the rest of the year when we are all told we should know our limits and drink responsibly, creates an internal vs external paradoxical conflict for the problem drinker. The internal utter misery, desperation and desolation of alcoholism is battered down and silenced amidst the external metaphorical collective noise of alcoholic merriment and fun.

However It has to be said ......there is, never can be, or ever will be any fun or merriment when drinking has become addictive.

If you need help and understanding with your drinking you don’t have to feel alone, there is support whatever time of the year it is !!

Take back control.................
Are you feeling increasingly stressed, anxious or depressed?
Rising stress levels in today’s fast paced world are causing a huge rise in mental health issues in the UK.
Work related stress is by far the most common and factors cited for this include, tight deadlines, too much responsibility, lack of managerial support, lack of control, conflict in the work place and a rise in the ‘blame culture’ where people are too afraid to get things wrong or make mistakes.
A very worrying statistic shows that 12 men take their own lives every day in this country.
Over and above our working lives other contributing factors to pile the pressures on is money worries, our health, partners, friends, loss, drink and drugs.
So, are you more stressed than usual?
How are you managing your stress?
Is someone close to you concerned about your behaviours?
Many of us turn to alcohol or drugs in search of some release or some temporary rest bite. For many this remains a manageable strategy. For others it gradually gets out of control and actually begins to add to the stresses and pressures we feel.
Do you recognise this in yourself? If so there is help. A discrete, private, bespoke service which is tailored to accommodate your individual needs.
Make contact...........take back control.
