How I can help you as a Naturopath

I help my clients improve their health by working with them to find the cause of their unwellness. Dis-ease is not something that only effects our physical body. Dis-ease starts in the energy field before manifesting into our physical body. What we think, how we feel and what we do all play a part in creating the health and vitality we wish to enjoy. For this reason, I believe it is in our own best interest to improve the health of our mental, emotional and spiritual centres as well as nourishing our body with the right foods. My approach to helping my clients achieve a high level of overall health focuses on all these aspects of their being.

🍂 Autumn Reset 🍂

Now that the days are cooler, I feel it’s the right time to slow down a little and bring in more warming, comforting foods. Roasted root vegetables like carrots, parsnips and sweet potato, along with apples, pears and spices such as ginger, turmeric and cinnamon, can really help support energy and immunity at this time of year. Herbs like elderberry or thyme are also great for keeping well through the season.

✨ Here’s a favourite Autumn Immune Soup: gently cook carrots, sweet potato, parsnip, onion, garlic and ginger in stock until soft, then blend and add a little turmeric, black pepper and lemon juice. It’s simple, nourishing and a great option for cosy evenings.

Did you know that we are constantly exposed to heavy metals in our daily lives? These toxins can enter our bodies through several pathways, including through the skin, inhalation of polluted air and through the foods we consume, especially if they have come from a tin or been heated in an aluminium pan or with foil paper. Heavy metals like lead, aluminium, mercury, arsenic, and cadmium can accumulate in the body over time, leading to many potential health issues.

Given the widespread exposure to these harmful substances, it is crucial to support the body’s natural detoxification processes. Regular detoxification can help reduce the burden of heavy metals and promote overall health.

Fortunately, certain foods have natural chelating properties that can help in drawing heavy metals out of the body. Consuming these foods regularly as part of a balanced diet can help in detoxifying the body and enhancing its ability to eliminate toxins effectively.

Pineapple and honey cough remedy

It’s that time of year when lots of people are getting coughs and colds! Did you know that pineapple and honey are extremely effective at relieving your cough?
Pineapples are rich in the enzyme bromelain which helps your cough by dissolving mucus whilst soothing your throat. Bromelain also has strong anti -inflammatory properties.
Honey is renowned for its medicinal qualities and will help to soothe your cough. The antioxidants in honey have important decongestant properties. The darker the honey the more antioxidants it contains. Good choices of honey to use would be manuka, raw, buckwheat or avocado honey.
Note: Honey should not be given to children under the age of 12 months.

Pineapple and honey remedy

Ingredients
- Half a medium pineapple, peeled and sliced.
- 1 tablespoon of honey.
- Water.

Method
- Peel the pineapple and cut it into 1 inch slices.
- Put them into a pan.
- Pour over enough water just to cover the pineapple slices.
- Add 1 tablespoon of honey.
- Turn on the heat and leave for a few minutes until the pineapple softens.
- Turn off the heat and leave to cool.
- Blend and store in a glass jar.
- Take 3 tablespoons per day.

When you have a cough it is a good idea to avoid:
- Dairy (could stimulate extra mucus production).
- Caffeine (It is a natural diuretic and can dehydrate you and result in a worsened cough).
- Processed foods (they are high in salt and have limited nutrients).
- Fried foods (the process of frying can release irritants in the air that can trigger or worsen your cough).
