To celebrate National Candy Day, residents at St Catherines enjoyed a sweet treat with a special visit from St Peter’s School.

In a playful twist, the children dressed in Victorian costume and served jars of traditional sweets at our very own ‘Ye Old Sweet Shop’. Residents used old-fashioned one-pound notes, printed by our Companionship team, to choose bags filled with their favourite treats, while the children went home with a sweet surprise of their own.

We recently we hosted a heartfelt party in honour of our nurse Jane’s retirement from her role at Colten.

Many residents, and relatives from past and present gathered to share their memories and express gratitude for the years of support she provided.

As a dedicated nurse for over 40 years, Jane has been a cherished member of the Colten family for the last 7, offering care and compassion to residents their families, and staff alike. It was a joy to see everyone come together to honour her remarkable contributions.

We wish Jane all the best in her future adventures and thank her for the lasting impact she has made!

Residents and staff recently enjoyed a relaxing day out at Haskins Garden Centre.

Upon arrival, we took a leisurely stroll through the garden centre before heading to the restaurant, where a delicious lunch awaited. Residents tucked into a variety of dishes, all accompanied by freshly brewed coffee and friendly conversation.

After lunch, there was plenty of time to explore. Resident Mary particularly enjoyed browsing the books and soft teddies, while Sue was delighted by the sight of the newly displayed Christmas decorations — already bringing festive cheer in October!

It was a lovely afternoon spent together, filled with laughter, good food, and great company.

We celebrated National Homemade Cookie Day in the sweetest way possible! Companionship Team Leader Laura and residents rolled up their sleeves to bake a delicious batch of cookies for our local community.

Afterwards, Companionship Team Leader Laura and Senior Administrator Ilsa joined forces with our local primary school for a very special delivery. We visited nearby homes to share the cookies and thank our neighbours for being such wonderful members of our community.

Residents Gill and Peter had a delightful time exploring their creative sides with bubble wrap art!

They used bubble wrap to create beautiful flower patterns. It was wonderful to see how much they enjoyed the sensory process. The activity allowed them to express themselves and have fun in a new and engaging way.

We recently hosted a lively pirate-themed party, creating the atmosphere by playing sea shanties and setting up a pirate backdrop, perfect for our adventure on the high seas.

Residents joined in the fun, dressing up in pirate attire and embracing their inner swashbucklers. We also indulged in delicious pirate-inspired snacks, making the day even more special.

We look forward to more themed parties that bring joy and laughter to our residents!

As part of our celebrations for National Emergency Services Day, we enjoyed a visit from our local police.

Residents Peter and Jenifer were particularly thrilled to see the police car arrive.

The police officers took the time to explain the various gadgets and features of the car. Peter and Jenifer had the opportunity to sit in the driver’s seat and were fascinated by the lights. It was delightful to see them engage with the police, asking questions and sharing laughter as the officers recounted fun stories about their work.

Residents decided it would be nice to do something to celebrate HCA Fejiro and Senior Care Lead Patience to send them off on maternity leave.

So, we held a baby shower, which residents helped to set up: decorating the lounge with balloons, banners, and gifts. The kitchen prepared some delicious cupcakes and nibbles for residents and staff to enjoy together.

We started the party with a baby trivia quiz followed by a word game to come up with some name suggestions.
