We are proud to back the brilliant work of Age Without Limits

Find out what you can do to support them, in challenging negative and outdated stereotypes ⬇️

“I suddenly realised that over the years, some of my attitudes have been ageist and I’d not even been aware it,” a supporter told us.

“Yet it is the one ‘ism’ we will all eventually become part of.

“I think of the things I’ve said: a classic is something I heard from my mother, ‘mutton dressed as lamb’ and now I’ll say to my daughters, ‘Am I too old for this?’”.

Self-directed ageism is when we internalise ageism due to repeated exposure to ageist messages.

This can then become a self-fulfilling prophecy, affecting our self-esteem and what we think we are capable or worthy of as we get older. Then we can start to limit our opportunities and activities such as our physical activity or the way we dress.
